A new KING 5 poll finds 52 percent of registered voters support Tim Eyman’s Initiative 1125, which would put new restrictions on tolling and gas tax revenue.

The initiative would require that tolls be set by the legislature and that tolls collected on a specific road could only be used for that road. The initiative would also limit the use of gas tax money for highway purposes, potentially restricting Sound Transit from using the center lanes of I-90 for light rail.

I-1125 would also prohibit congestion pricing, in which tolls vary during peak and off-peak hours, and it would require that tolls be removed after a road project is paid.

In the KING 5 SurveyUSA poll, 52 percent supported the initiative when asked the actual ballot language, while 24 percent opposed it.  A quarter of those polled were unsure.

The poll of 529 registered voters statewide included people with landlines and cell phones and has a margin of +/- 4.3 percent.

The KING 5 poll found the most popular aspect of 1125 is the provision that tolls be removed after a project is paid (75 percent in favor). However, 53 percent said they thought the transportation commission, not the legislature, should set tolls.

It would be great to role back the auto licence cost to the $20 again. We all know what ever we vote for can be changed by the law makers anyway. I'll vote for anything that slows the taxes to this state.

How about we just quit building roads? Washington residents have initiated them selves to the edge of a cliff as your budget shows. Time for a three prong tax approach, sales, income and property tax.

Initiatives are one way to force the political elite to listen to the electorate. They lie to us without blinking if it gets them elected while listening only to those with large campaign contributions. Another way to make them listen is to vote. GRIP = Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians.

Tim Eyman may have the initiatives, but the voters are the ones who decide . This is necessary as the elected elite don't listen or follow the law. The state constitution reads that fuel taxes can only be used on roads. Yet the money gets siphoned off for other projects i.e. art, bike lanes, trails. The voters have voted to approve a 2/3 vote in the legislature to raise taxes. This has been overridden 3 times, working on the fourth. Gregoire has even stated she will ignore it. others have circumvented their role by letting agencies raise "fees". Remember back about the lottery, remember last session King County wanted to extend the taxes for the stadium to use for other purposes. The state needs to start living within its means, stop spending and passing the bill to tax payers.

As cars are using less gas (and some are using none at all), tolls will be necessary for both construction and maintenance of roads. Some roads will not have enough traffic to pay for themselves, but they are still necessary. I think I would prefer getting rid of gas taxes entirely and charging vehicles a mileage toll when their licenses are renewed. Unlike our gasoline taxes, the money would be restricted for transportation purposes only instead of going into the general fund.

Eyman is ruining the state worse then the Gov. He's making millions off you people with his stupid ideas........ IF you people want to save state spending make the Leg. reform the welfare (EBT) system.... dont allow illegals state socials services....... and dont let them take all our jobs.... Look at the home builders, alot are being built by illegal cheap labor.... HOW MANY CONSTRUCTION AND OTHER JOBS HAVE BEEN LOST TO ILLEGAL CHEAP LABOR.

I agree stonetrail, Eyeman is effective because he pursues causes that the majority believe in. Our legislators follow the rule of squeaky wheel. Whine loud enough and we will bend to your way. Eyeman would be totally ineffective in Olympia because none of them is as dumb as all of them.

Whether you like Tim Eyman or not, give credit where it is due. At least he is doing something about trying to control out-of-control government spending. And whether you like him or not, don't you believe SOMEONE needs to do SOMETHING about that problem that is killing our country? AT least Tim Eyman is DOING SOMETHING instead of sitting back and whining and complaining. GO TIM!

For everyone whining about Tim Eyman, this is not a vote on whether you like or dislike him. It is a vote on setting the rules for road tolling. Nothing more, nothing less. And the reason citizens have to have a direct part in making law is that the weasils down in Olympia continue to squander our tax dollars and spend beyond the means of the taxpayers. And if you don't like the initiative/referendum process, change the state constitution if you think you can. In the meantime stop whining.

Read The Stranger's article regarding what Eyman's initiative will actually do. Just search for Eyman 1125 and The Stranger.

To: finngirl60 I hope you will do your research before voting for another Eyman initiative. Many of them look good at first glance, but if you carefully read them, (and you do have to be careful because they purposely make them really, really confusing) these initiatives really hurt our state. Read ALL THE FACTS before supporting this guy. He does A LOT of shady stuff.

I would support an initiative to block Tim Eyman from putting forth any more initiatives. He puts something forward even if it makes no sense. He is only trying to have to keep from getting a regular job. I would like to remind people that he stole money from his contributions and only received a slap on the wrist for it. This is a man who has made a career out of what he calls being a public watchdog, but if there isn't a cause which requires his intervention, he creates one. I do not believe he has the public interests in mind as much as his own. If he didn't have anything to fight against, he wouldn't be able to draw his salary out of your contributions. Think about that. He has created a very good living out of costing the taxpayers a fortune. What exactly has he accomplished? He has lowered the car tabs to the detriment of this state, and when the State of Washington institutes an income tax, you will have Tim Eyman to thank. I will not be thanking him.

Gas tax HUH.....Maybe they should stop the kicking back the taxes collected on gas that is collected on the Indian Reservations. Also why are we the only state that doesn't get revenue tax on money made on casinos on reservations? The Christine doesn't want to talk about this.... The money could go for roads and schools.

The problem is not Tim Eyman. The problem is a legislature that continues to waste and mismanage the money entrusted to them by the public.

I believe there needs to be legislation that forbids Tim Eyman from doing these nearly every voting season. I havent voted for any of this little pet initiatives because he does them for his own peace of mind not for the public. Its insane to limit toll money for the tolled road only when other areas like rural roads in the mid state need work as well. Tim Eyman is a weasel, though Im sorry to insult the weasel community for that.

Tim Eyman’s initiatives always end up costing residents more money in the end than they save now. I don't know why people can't see that.
