SEATTLE – Bail was set at $2 million Wednesday for an eastside eye surgeon charged with plotting to hire a hit man to murder his business partner and a former employee.

Dr. Michael Mockovak pleaded not guilty in a King County courtroom to two counts of criminal solicitation of first-degree murder.
Mockovak is the co-founder of Clearly Lasik. He's accused of trying to recruit a fellow employee to help him hire a hit man to kill his partner, Dr. Joseph King, and the former president of the company, Bradley Klock.

King is also Mockovak's neighbor and the brother-in-law of his ex-wife.

According to prosecutors, the doctors were trying to split the business. They say Mockovak was not happy with a potential settlement and offered to pay another employee, whom he believed had ties to the Russian Mafia, to hire a hit man.

That employee went to the FBI.

According to the probable cause statement, Clearly Lasik has a $5 million life insurance policy on Dr. King, of which Dr. Mockovak believed he would get half.

In court Wednesday, King stood just feet away from Mockovak, asking the judge for an even higher bail.

"He knows so many details about me, our lives, that I'm tremendously concerned that, if he is released, he'll try to finish the job," said King.

Mockovak's attorney said his bail was already higher than most other cases she's seen and wanted it reduced. The attorney said Mockovak would cooperate with any provisions and just wanted to get back to work.

The judge set the bail at $2 million and said Mockovak wouldn't be going back to work anytime soon. If he makes bail, he's ordered to stay at least a half mile from Clearly Lasik, King's house and the schools King's children attend.

Mockovak's next court appearance is Dec. 16.

Wow, I used them several years ago and I thought these guys did a great job. Frightening what goes on in the back of ones mind.

Testing, testing, let's see if the K-5 Nazis delete yet another post of mine. Rather than saying what I feel, I'll say something positive to see if I get one post to stick. This Dr. looks like a very nice fellow. I say give him a little community service and if he says he's sorry all is well. I'm sure he did'nt mean to do it. There, now I am all touchy feeley politically correct and such a forgiving person. I am starting to fit right in here with the other W ashingtonians.

This guy had so much going for him. Here's another example of how greed is the root of all evil. I sure hope he can't make bail. I would be very nervous knowing this nut case was out if he wanted to kill me. To bad, he has ruined his life and probably a lot of others who had respect for him. Greed Greed Greed

$2,000,000? Why not NO BAIL???!!! A surgeon would have no problem coming up with the precentage to get out on bail. If I was his neighbor I would hire an armed guard to sit in front of my home if he was able to get out. What a loon. Not guilty plea? The idiot was caught on tape plotting this!

This JUDGE has no idea and was insane to lower his bail and not keep him locked up. This is a real Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Don't be fooled!! It's about time that Mockovak has been exposed.

As a former employee I am still jaw dropping shocked at Michael Mockovak doing something like this. I always thought he was a great guy...he even did the lasik on my eyes. Joe, like wise, always a nice soft spoken guy. As for Brad Klock, I thought he was total idgit, but still now reason to get whacked. This is just too Tru TV for me!
