Everett Police say an officer shot and killed an aggressive pit bull Monday as it advanced on him.
Police say at about 11 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 5400 block of Rockefeller Ave. on the report of two pit bulls running loose, chasing cars and acting aggressively.
They say the report came after multiple calls were received about loose dogs near a public walking path and an elementary school.
Police say the officer could not find the dogs but found a residence in the 2000 block of 53rd St SE where he believed they lived. The officer attempted to contact the resident but no one answered the door.
As he turned to leave, the officer was confronted by two pit bulls. While trapped on the porch, one of the dogs advanced on the officer, who kicked it away. When the dog charged a second time, the officer shot and killed it. The second dog ran from the scene and was still at large.
Everett Animal Control officers responded and took custody of the dead dog.
The Everett Police Department says the officer, who is a 14-year veteran of law enforcement, was not hurt.
The incident is under investigation.
