SEATTLE – Bagpipe bands from across Northwest will honor the four fallen Lakewood Police officers at Tuesday's memorial.

While traditionally, one pipe band participates in memorials for police officers and firefighters, during the memorial for Sgt. Mark Renninger  and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards at least eight bands will play.

Spencer Nelson, Pipe Major for Seattle Firefighters Pipes & Drums, says to his knowledge it will be the first "civil servant mass band" in the state.

"Some of the bands are brand new and some have been around a long time," said Nelson "We're all getting together to honor our fallen."

Scheduled to play are Pierce Co Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Seattle Firefighter Pipes and Drums, Portland Police Pipes and Drums, Vancouver BC Pipes and Drums, Spokane Valley Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Snohomish County Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Vancouver (WA) Fire Pipes and Drums and Salem (Ore.) Firefighters Pipes and Drums.

Nelson said it breaks down to 76 pipers and drummers, which will be split into 2 groups, one for inside, one for outside.
