SUMMIT, Wash. – The Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. says a man apparently shot and killed his girlfriend inside the couple's home early Saturday, then killed himself.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said the man's father called police to check on the couple Saturday morning, after receiving a strange phone call from his son.

When officers arrived, they found the couple dead.

The medical examiners office identified the couple as Darrell Street, 26, and Rosa Duran, 29.

Neighbors say Street was a corrections officer and Duran was a real estate agent.

Troyer said the couple's 1-year-old son was at his grandparents' house at the time of the shooting.

I have had both the honor and privilage of serving with Darrell in the 1st Battalion 18th Infantry regiment. He was a stand out soldier and an outstanding individual. I did not have the opportunity of meeting his girlfriend or child however, my heart is heavy for them. My condolences go out to Darrell, his girlfriend Rosa, their son, and their families.

How can life be that bad? The poor little boy, his life is just starting... and now he has no mom, no dad... very sad:(
