COVINGTON, Wash. – Sheriff's deputies arrested a grandmother on suspicion of DUI with her grandkids in the car.

"We were just really worried about the kids," said Tatiana Amendola. She was driving with her mother Chantal on Saturday down Kent Kangley Road when they spotted the woman driving erratically.

"I saw someone throw a beer bottle out a passenger window," said Amendola.

"The back passenger side opens, and I see a little arm, and part of a head, and I say, uh oh," said Chantal.

The mother and daughter, who were on their way to look at prom dresses, took a detour, and followed the driver in front of them.

"Each time she would swerve, it was pretty bad," said Chantal.

She called 9-1-1 and led police to a local Fred Meyer parking lot, where deputies arrested the grandmother on suspicion off DUI and reckless endangerment. The grandmother had a .20 blood alcohol level.

The kids were turned over to family member.

Chantal, a grandmother herself, believes they did the right thing to help the two small children stuck on a dangerous ride.

"Right is right and wrong is wrong, and we just did what was right in this situation."

The inebriated grandmother was released on her own recognizance, and police expect prosecutors to make a formal charges within the next few weeks.

yeah, I agree with clear. The granny will walk with a slap on the wrist because she's a "granny" and someone will feel sorry for her. Chucking beer bottles out the window, driving drunk with her grandkids? You can bet the people in her family know she's a DUI, no one can get to be that old without showing specific patterns of behavior.

The mother of those kids is a complete idiot if she ever lets the grandmother near those kids again!

Good grief! Why would anyone endanger kids like that? Some grandmother!!! I sure hope she gets the book thrown at her.

They also need to look into the parents to make sure they were unaware that the grandmother was drunk. If they knew, take the kids away for child endangerment, if they didn't I hope they never let her take them again. Worthless drunk!!
