LILLIWAUP, Wash. - A debris slide closed U.S. 101 north of the small town of Lilliwaup.

According to the state Department of Transportation, rocks, gravel, tree branches and mud slid down the hillside near Eagle Creek Road at about 9 p.m. Monday night.

Public utility crews shut the power down and Department of Transportation crews took out some precarious trees.

Mitch Wellander drove by at about 2:30 a.m.

"I came through here, there was trees sliding and a little bit of a mess," he said, adding that "It was pouring frickin' rain."

As soon as the slide came down, the DOT put up a couple of road blocks a few miles on either side of it.

By noon, one lane of the road had been opened so traffic could get through.

Channel 5 should give Tim Robinson a free dinner with all the trimmings for holding back this morning. He could have raked DOT big time. After being there for hours and talking about somebody (Unknown) clearing the road, (101) traffic was passing through. Tim kept saying the DOT kept passing the message the "The Road Is Closed" but no DOT of any kind was in site. Still the cars were going through and Tim kept passing on the message issued by DOT that the "Road Is Closed", but if you kept watching the cars kept passing through and still no DOT. I guess it took a while for them to put down their coffee and dounuts and get there. Way to keep from ripping them a new one Tim, you have my admiration! :)
