SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard and state Ecology Department are working to stop a small fuel leak coming from a 40-foot tug boat that partially sank at a dock in the Duwamish River at Seattle.
According to reports, workers in the area smelled diesel at about 3 a.m. in the area of the dock in the Harbor Island Marina at 1001 SW Kickitat Way.
When Coast Guard crews arrived on the scene, they found the tug had sunk at its berth. The vessel was resting on the bottom, its wheelhouse above the waterline.
The vessel was leaking diesel fuel into the water.
Workers from the Department of Ecology have placed booms around the tug to contain the fuel. A diver has gone into the water to try to plug the leaks, which are said to be coming through vent holes on the tug.
Crews estimate about 100 gallons of fuel have leaked into the water.
