More firefighters were dispatched early Thursday to help fight a growing wildfire near Brewster.

The Crane Road Fire flared up in the last 24 hours along the Columbia River between the towns of Pateros and Brewster.

As of Thursday morning, authorities reported at an estimated 2,000 acres burned along the Columbia River.

It started as only about 100 acres Wednesday afternoon, but grew to 700 acres by evening.

Five homes in the path of the fire have received evacuation notices.

Firefighters from Douglas, Chelan and Okanogan counties were on the scene, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office dispatched its mobile command post to assist in operations.
