SEATTLE -- The constitutionality of a voter-approved measure that would fund charter schools is being questioned by a coalition of educators and community groups.

The coalition filed a "legal demand" Wednesday asking the state Attorney General to investigate seven constitutional issues with the new law.

One problem the groups have with the measure is the way it would divert public school money to support private  non-profit organizations.

The coalition also believes the new law violates a requirement that the Superintendent of Public Instruction supervise everything related to public schools.  They say, if the Attorney General fails to respond to the complaint, they will file a  law suit in state courts.

The group is lead by the state teacher's union, the League of Women Voters and El Centro De La Raza.
