DUPONT, Wash. - At least four homes on one DuPont cul-de-sac suffered water damage during last week's freezing temperatures.
A requirement that's supposed to make homes safer may be to blame.
Bill Anderson, DuPont's Building Official, said the fact that DuPont homes must have fire sprinklers could explain the higher than usual amount of calls for freezing, bursting pipes last week.
But, it wasn't the sprinkler pipes that have caused Ken Boucher to have to temporarily move out of his home. An uninsulated stretch of bathroom pipe burst in his attic last Thursday while he and his wife were at work. The couple has removed sections of ceiling, walls and flooring.
"I don't know how this passed the inspection," said Boucher holding the piece of pipe.
Boucher would like the city to see who signed off on his home's inspection, which would have required the pipe to be insulated.
