WASHINGTON, D.C. - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says she hasn't yet looked into the case of the American college student in Italy who was found guilty of murdering her British roommate.

Amanda Knox of Seattle has been sentenced to 26 years in prison after a yearlong trial. Knox's family insists she's innocent and is a victim of character assassination. They plan to appeal.

Sen. Maria Cantwell, a Democrat from Washington state, has said she plans to bring her own concerns -- including whether "anti-Americanism" tainted the trial -- to Clinton.

Clinton said she's been tied up with Afghanistan policy and hasn't examined the case. Clinton said she'll meet with anyone who has concerns about the case. She also said she hasn't expressed any concerns to the Italian government.

Clinton spoke on ABC's "This Week."

Gee whiz......... I think the point "Fed_up" was trying to make was valid, and that there seemed to be a lot of base-less opinions being tossed around, perhaps being politically biased in nature? I agree with him, that we should judge this case on facts, and not some fictional Drama.........

Dear fed_up...... So are we :-) did you post today, three long posts ? and in your first post ask others to get off of their computers ?????? I'm just asking. I'm thinking with all that extra energy, ambition and willingness to excel that you have..... beside just reading the post and then trashing folks for posting their OWN opinion, you should possibly TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF,,, have a lovely glass of wine and just relax. Most people would understand that Hillary Clinton doesn't give a rats behind about anything except political ambition, money ,, greed and POLITICS ! Thus the name Klintoons came about when Billy was playing. Like i said fed_up,,, YOU ARE fed_up and SO ARE WE !! don't criticize others for voicing their opinion, when you ' today ' did the same thing,,,, with 3 lengthy posts !!!!!

US Gov't should stay out of it. It's local period.

Schnooksiepoots, were you in Italy when she was being interviewed, or did you just read that on some site and decide to repeat it? She also did not have a fluent understanding of Italian, just a basic understanding, and they refused to question her in English. So, of course it would be difficult to get convey your point when you don't speak the language. There is no physical evidence linking her to the crime scene, except for tainted physical evidence. The crime scene was completely trompled and much of the evidence was cross-contaminated. The expert for the defense even stated the weapon they are trying to pin on her did not even create the wounds that Meredith Kercher died from. You have to admit, fan of Amanda Knox or not - that is beyond shady. Although, at the same time, that does happen all of the time here in the US and we rarely do anything about it...so, I guess take it all with a grain of salt.

I guess Amada Knox should have kept her story straight from the get-go! She said she was in the house. I believe the jury had evidence and I also believe Amanda's initial statements that she was in the house. Hilary Clinton needs to stay out of this issue.

Also, just to add to my point - would everyone be saying this if she was a journalist in Iraq? Just leave them there to rot? No, they would be crying Mary to get Hilary Clinton involved. So, just because an Italian government convicted Amanda Knox of a crime that no one can really be sure she committed, it doesn't mean that her own home country shouldn't have a peak at her file to make sure that everybody played by the rules. Not to mention every country besides Canada and Mexico are not too fond of the United States right now probably because we are broke and trying to fight two wars. So, like I said before -I don't know Amanda Knox but I still think that she deserves a shot from her own country, for crying out loud.

My goodness, after reading some of your comments - I am ASTONISHED! I can't believe that our own state would completely turn our backs on Amanda Knox. I have never met her, nor have I formed an opinion about her case (I've learned never to trust the media.) However, everyone says to let her rot in prison but I can guarantee that if that was you in a foreign country being tried in a language that is not your own - you would be BEGGING someone to do something for you. I have, however, read the newest version of the Monster of Florence where the author of that book was repeatedly harassed by the same Prosecutor who just claimed victory over Amanda Knox. I suggest that some of you turn off your computer, pick up a book and do some actual research instead of reading someone else's commentary and regurgitating it as your own opinion. That is what is wrong with this country - people are too lazy and stupid to form their own opinions, they just borrow others.

You live in a foreign country, you accept their judicial system. Try as you might, you can't apply our laws and principles to other nations. Ask any serviceman about a Status of Force Agreement. You commit a crime overseas, you get tried under the host countries laws.

HC has better things to do than whine to the Italians about Foxxy Knoxy! Amanda shouldn't have done this in the first place and I am personally glad to find out that money can't buy your way out of everything. Just to reiterate to my fellow Seattleites: Just because you went to the UW does not make you incapable of murder, in fact if you look though history some of the world's worst people were also heavily educated, I am not condemning college mind you, merely pointing out that college attendance does no render one incapable of serious crimes.

Ummm i dont get it, this has been a trail that has gone on for 2 YEARS. She hasent time to look at it in that long of time and now that she has been found guilty NOW she is going to get involved. Can you say a political media ploy.

I don't know if she is truly guilty. I've heard from both sides of this argument, and I can empathize from different angles. I do know that I wont be funding tuition for my kids to go "study" in Italy. Green River Community College or bust!

yiseunggi: Maybe we'll find out Knox works for Al Gore too. I think Hilary Clinton should look at it and find a way to bring Amanda back, because she is American. And Americans should never be tried in a foreign court and be punished.

This case has been a media circus act, and it looks to me as if Miss Knox is being railed, by a "Drama Queen" of a prosecutor. What can her parents do, that they have not done already? Many foreign students come to Our country, for an education, and if something of this tragic nature, was to happen, I would want them to be treated justly, and fair! I'm not sure that this is the case here! I believe someone of "sound logic" and "Power", does need to look into this...........

dr_cooper, AGREED! Maybe those of you who think this is "junk" (i.e. billl-whatever) or think this case isn't important and that this family should solve their own problems, put yourself in this family's position. If you had a 20 year old daughter who went to study abroad and never came home because she was convicted of a crime you believe she never committed, how would you feel? I'm sure you would do everything you could and try to receive all the help possible to bring your daughter home.

This maybe EXACTLY what is needed. To all of you that have found Amanda guilty in your minds, you really need to do some research and THEN decide if she's guilty. As one who spent 2 months in Italy recently and another 4 months in Europe I can tell you the media, in all forms, completely distorted, lied, and mis-stated the case. But don't believe me. Do some research - many of you will be shocked.

So some Americans are upset because an American was tried abroad according to that nation's own laws... I would hope that our secretary of state has bigger fish to fry than overprivileged murderesses... Cantwell should focus on bringing companies and jobs to Washington, and keeping Boeing happy, rather than this junk....

LOL you have GOT to be kidding. Why bring Hilary Clinton to the Knox case??? I mean, this is the KNOX's problem. Knox's, do your own work, dont bring trouble to everyone else. Dont just bring a famous person to help you. Its just pointless. Amanda Knox will just stay in prison for what she did..... or until you do something by YOURSELF to stop this.
