TACOMA, Wash. - A church and a high school are among customers out of deposit money after the business, Party Outfitters, sent them an email that said the company had to close it's doors.
Party Outfitters website states that it is located in Lacey, Washington and it has provided party supplies like inflatable slides and bouncy houses.
Edwin Comstock with Sound Life Church in Tacoma said they have used the company for 17 years. The church paid $1200 to Party Outfitters as a deposit for several large scale inflatables, according to an invoice. The items were going to be used at the upcoming Easter Eggstravaganza on March 30th.
"To confirm with them and send them money, then all of a sudden receive communication that they are out of business and we are out of that deposit, that is where the disappointed feeling comes from," said Comstock.
Sound Life Church reached out to another party supplier, Clowns Unlimited in Kent. Owner Bob Washburn said his company is receiving 3 to 5 calls a day from Party Outfitters customers. Among those customers are a group of parents and students from Aberdeen High who said they are out a $4500 deposit. Parent Dawn Kuhn said they paid Party Outfitters the money to supply entertainment for the upcoming graduation party. Now they are scrambling to find other options.
"I feel bad for the owner of Party Outfitters, I feel bad for its employees, I especially feel bad for its customers left in a lurch," said Washburn.
Here is the email Sound Life Church received on March 1st from Party Outfitters:
"Hello - I am writing this email with a heavy heart. Party Outfitters has been through a rough situation and has closed its doors. We are doing everything we can at this time to reimburse you the monies that have been paid for your upcoming event.
We are sad to say goodbye."
King 5's calls to Party Outfitters have not yet been returned.
