SEATTLE – Car owners in King County could see their car tab fees go up $20 in order to avoid cuts to Metro Transit.
King County Executive Dow Constantine is asking the King County Council Monday to approve the hike, which would last two years. Six out of the nine council members must approve the increase. Otherwise, it may go before voters.
Metro Transit is facing a $60 million deficit and may need to reduce bus service. Constantine said without additional fee, the cuts could be as much as 17 percent.
The Executive's Office said that would be roughly equivalent to cutting all rush hour bus service or all weekend service in King County.
