NEAR OSO, Wash. – A driver was rescued Thursday afternoon after crashing his car, causing power lines to come down.

The Washington State Patrol says the accident happened at a dairy farm along SR 530 near Oso. Troopers say the steering wheel came off the steering column of the 1978 Buick. The car went almost totally inside the barn and was then covered by roofing and electrical wiring.

The 59-year-old driver from Darrington was rescued about an hour later, having suffered only minor neck pain.

Troopers say the car managed to miss several small barns with baby cows inside.

casey101 - I'll be happy to buy American when we stop making JUNK in America. Germany & Japan are industry leaders for a reason. They have superior products. Plain and simple... trojan33 - When you picture Carl Constantine, make sure that you picture him driving a $62,000 Mercedes and living in a $1.7 million dollar penthouse in Belltown. Don't get me twisted OK? I didn't get my law degree by being a dummy.

Ok so to the people. I live across the highway from the soler farm (where this crash took place). It was very odd seeing this lol. But the odd thing is about 2 to 4 times a year someone crashes on our little 1/4 mile straight stretch. And oso is pretty such smack dab in the middle of Arlington and Darlington. The news was wrong; this is just after mile post 31, not 32. We are exactly 9.3 miles out of Arlington. And if you look at the pictures he had the brakes locked up. And I doubt he was drunk at 12:30 in the afternoon. We may live in the boonies but out here were more respectable then most yuppies. And to carlconstantine why do you live in America if you can’t stand up for what we build and believe, you should go back to Germany where you’re Mercedes is built, because I can tell you now America couldn’t care less if you left. You’re probably some heavily over weight pencil pusher that still has trouble figuring out how to put gas in your car. People like you are the main reason for

gablestout - Please understand something. This story is about an AMERICAN MADE AUTOMOBILE that ended up crashing into a barn for some reason (which was probably with no fault of the driver) Now then... We as Americans have unalienable rights to express opinions according to our own discretion. American made cars could crash into barns on any given Sunday. Someone needs to bring this issue to the forefront and raise public awareness on this matter. No barn is safe as long as Labor Unions at GM are still in existence. No cows were injured which has greater significance than the Buick in question.

my 1993 Ford Escort has 211,000 miles on it!! my 2000 Ford F-150 has 129,000 miles on it !!! niether one has ever broken down!! and only the F150 had to go back to Ford for the switch that was causing fires. it's all about how you take care of them!! I have followed the service manuels exactly since I bought these new. and they still look allmost new. it's washing and waxing them as well as service them. I have to admit though I bought a new Mazda 3 back in 2008 cause after shopping around for a new car for the money the Mazda just looked and felt more like a car that was built very well while the american cars didnt feel or look well made. and yes the tag inside the door said it was made in Japan

Amazing how the under paid with no pension or medical benefits prefer a non union job. Most I know just can't get hired by a union shop. The rest simply have low self esteem. Union members pull their share of the tax load and don't need welfare and medicaid, which union members wind up paying for in taxes. We know who builds the best car these days. Like I saw on a bumper sticker, "Hungry? Need a job? Eat your foreign car."

@carlconstantine, @bazwest, @kitsapgirl. I appreciate your opinions, but please offer them somewhere else. This article is way too funny to have folks diatribe against the American auto industry. There are plenty of extraordinary American cars, made then and now, and plenty of POS foreign cars, from Germany (not Sweden- Swedes kick arse on cars (I own an S80), Japan, Yugoslavia, Korea, Britain, France...Lets stick to funny quips about this story, like: was he still holding the wheel and trying to turn it after it fell off? or, Aw, he almost made road Veal! or...1978 Buick? I think the barn probably suffered more damage than the car! or...Well, yea, I would assume the car was covered by the roofing if it was INSIDE the barn! or...based of the photos, I'd guess "rescued" meant, "opened the passenger door." or...Wait a minute, look at the dirt road. Did he "miss" several small barns first, or just decide "that's the one!" and pull a hard Louie at the last minute. or...'"100 points!"

No Cavs like how the heck does Cleveland still have a basketball team and we don't? I agree on the foreign car quality. There is a reason you can now get 100,000 mile 10 year warranties on many if not all foreign cars. They really are that good. My past experience is with Mazda, they make one heck of a car. Working with a Hyundai now. We will see if this one holds up.

bazwest - You're absolutely right. Please disregard my frustration and venting for the times that I purchased American made cars back in the 90's that literally fell apart while I was behind the wheel. Hah! Hah! Hah! You are right about unions. Unions drove GM in the ground because workers still wanted raises and huge bonuses, even after they made crappy cars. Am I right?

Its true Americans are lazy and hear me out on this. Those working in other countries make way less than we do here and yet you never hear them complaining and foreign made products are often times more durrable than that from the US. Maybe the word freedom has gotten into people's minds a little to much but wake up and get real the world isn't perfect so suck it up and deal with it. As for the car well it gave its life for those of the baby cows ;)

I like the way you think Constantine, but I beg to differ--American worker's aren't lazy. But unionized American workers drive our nations productivity down. And shooting them after they are fired? That might be a tad bit much. Firing is good though.

O' my freaking goodness! This is like a cartoon. It had to be a sorry piece of junk American made car. Just like Chrysler products... Remember when the wheels were falling off those Dodge Durango clunkers? Not to mention all of the other Chrysler vehicles with wheels falling off. Don't even let me get started on Ford products. Most of them won't even crank up at all after they get 90,000 miles on them. All I drive is Mercedes. But I would buy a Toyota, Honda, Nissan, or Mazda any day of the week! Toyota & Honda vehicles never had problems until they started manufacturing them in the US and sorry American workers installed faulty American made parts on them. Why are American workers so lazy anyway? That's why Boeing is leaving Seattle. Workers always want to go on strike, even though that are making $40 bucks a freaking hour! I think that they should be promptly fired... After that they should be taken out and SHOT! Now to all the Haters. Come and get some!
