SEATTLE – A Burien teen was sentenced Monday to nearly 14 years in prison for the shooting death of his girlfriend over what another boy posted on her MySpace page.
The Seattle Times reports Matthew Dubois, 18, entered an Alford plea for the New Year’s Eve 2009 death of 15-year-old Mikarah "Tinky" Sanders. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt, but an acknowledgment by Dubois that a jury would likely find him guilty of the charges of second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
Court records indicate Dubois is accused of shooting and killing Sanders, then shooting himself in the shoulder and blaming the entire incident a non-existent gang member. Dubois’ attorney claimed the shooting was accidental.
