BURIEN, Wash. - Sean Spingelt says it plainly: "The dog was a target, I'm sure."

That's how he feels about the break-in at his Burien pet store called "A Place For Pets."

Around 4 a.m., someone squeezed through a back window and went directly for a 10-week-old female Scottish Terrier.

"They climbed in through a window, and just took the dog. Nothing else," says Spingelt.

Authorities say it's the latest burglary and theft in Burien's downtown core. There have been roughly a dozen burglaries near the store on SW 152nd Street in a month's time.

Detectives do not believe they are connected to the "dog-napping" case.

But Spingelt is not taking any chances. He was welding his windows shut late Thursday so no one could break through again.

"It saddens us greatly," he says.

The puppy is valued at $745.

No, it's often true even for pet shops that aren't big chain stores. And it's definitely true that there's no need to buy from shops when there are shelters and rescues out there.

My name is Dylan Harris, and me and my girlfriend called the cops, and they got the dog. Our ex-friends are the ones who stole it...yes i said friends...as in 2. Our two lesbian ex friends names are Lucero Sevillano and her girlfriend Karen Hendrixson. They even asked me to help them! I didnt think they would do it...they said the dog was going to be euthinized but we found out that it was a lie, and we werent surprised. Truth be told we didnt even know the dog was wanted, we just called the cops because they wouldnt stop harrasing us....cops didnt seem to be interested until we mentioned they stolen a Scottish Terrior. the thieves called the dog fallen. if anybody needs to know more info you can find me on myspace or my email zidane13412@hotmail.com And i have texts from the "burglars" up to about 4 days before hand.

I doubt very much that the thief had the dog's best interests at heart. There may be many adoptable dogs, but there is a shortage of Scotties. Most Scottie rescue associations have waiting lists.

have you ever been to that pet store they are really nice people they treat there pets right and where your proof that they use puppy mills when they usually only have one or two puppy's i think your thinking of the big box stores not this independent pet store they also buy pets from people that can't keep them or they will tell you where you can take them and if you go there you will see all there pets are healthy unlike other places in the area and there staff are filled with good info on taking care for your pets and the dogs they usually sell are small dogs that are hard to find

"it saddens us greatly" the owner said....you know what is sad, the fact that thousands of healthy, adoptable dogs are killed each year in the U.S simply because there are too many dogs and not enough homes. Anyone selling and or breeding dogs should be ashamed of themselves and in my opinion, deserve to be violated. Get a real job instead of exploiting animals for profit. I wouldn't be surprised if the person that stole this puppy is actually rescuing it from this archaic and greedy puppy-mill dealer.
