The King County Medical Examiner will assist Thurston County authorities in finding out more about a newborn baby buried in an Olympia yard.

The baby's mother and mother's boyfriend are under investigation for possible improper disposal of human remains. Both are 16-years-old.

Officials said they hope to learn the baby's age, gender, and determine a cause of death.

The remains were discovered Tuesday on the 7500 block of 12th Avenue Northeast, in the yard of the boyfriend's home.

The mother and boyfriend told police they buried the baby in the yard, according to Thurston County Sheriff's Lt. Greg Elwin.

Elwin said the mother, a student at River Ridge High School in Lacey, told a school nurse she had a stillborn.
