TUMWATER, Wash. -- Closures, consolidations and layoffs due to budget cuts have generated shelves full of surplus equipment the State of Washington wants to sell.
At General Administration's Tumwater warehouse, computers, furniture, liquor store wine racks and school equipment that all once belonged to the state are up for sale.
A list of items for sale or auction can be found at: http://www.ga.wa.gov/surplus/index.html.
Selling an item to the general public is the last-case scenario for the state, according to G.A.'s Jonathan Franklin.
"Our job is to reutilize it, try to find another place where we can place it," said Franklin.
For example, when one state agency doesn't need computers anymore, they're sent to prisons to be refurbished by inmates.
The computers are then sent to students in the neediest school districts.
