MARYSVILLE, Wash. - An 11-year old boy who was seriously injured by fireworks has a warning for other kids.
Korbin Clemmons was on the Tulalip Reservation near Marysville on Monday morning, looking for unused fireworks on the beach. He found what he thought was a smoke bomb and a lighter next to it.
He used his right hand to shelter the fuse as he blew on it to get it going, and then it exploded.
Korbin says he couldn't see for several minutes and ran screaming back to his camp site, covered in blood and with his fingers broken.
"There was blood everywhere. It hurt really bad," he said.
Now he wants other children to learn from his mistake.
"For all the kids out there, you should always be with a parent when you're lighting off fireworks. It's very dangerous. I know a lot of people already told you this, but, I mean, look what happened," he said.
Korbin says the doctors tell him he should eventually regain full function of his hand.
"But it will take a very, very long time," he said.
