PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – A cow that was became trapped in the icy mud next to frozen creek is recovering after being pulled out with the help of a tractor.
It happened late Thursday morning along Blackjack Creek near Lider Road.
A Kitsap County Sheriff's Office spokesman says the cow got trapped in the soft soil near the creek as she trying to get water. She tried to get out, but ran out of energy. In a nearby pasture was the cow's one-month old calf.
A fence-building crew in the area reportedly called 911. With the help of a neighbor and his tractor, a hose was tied around the cow to pull it to solid ground.
The cow was covered with a tarp to warm it up. The rescuers also spent time rubbing the cow to keep it warm.
As of 3 p.m. Thursday, the cow was reportedly still alive.
