The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 16-year-old boy was found dead in the road in Covington early Saturday.
The King County Sheriff's Office says the teen was found at about 5:30 a.m. in the 19400 block of SE 267.
A Covington man in his 20s was arrested. Police said he would be booked on murder charges.
Investigators say the teenager had been staying with friends in a nearby neighborhood.
Sgt. Jesse Anderson King County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit said the victim had been drinking Friday night.
"He was fairly intoxicated and belligerent and our patrol officers had contact with him earlier," he said.
"The altercation started out when they arrived home and the victim was out in the neighborhood," said Anderson. "There was a confrontation, the victim was assaulted by the suspect we have in custody and we don't know cause, or for that matter manner of death, at this point."
"It's a tragedy all the way around," said Anderson.
"Somebody got him for some dumb reason and took his life," said a friend of the victim.
"This should be a sign for us to do better but at the same time a sign that there's people out there in the world that are really bad people out there and they just don't care so why should we?"
An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigators say the victim may have ties to a gang, but they do not believe that's the reason he was targeted.
"Just because he's a gang member doesn't mean it's gang related," said Anderson.
