NEAR GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a homicide north of Gig Harbor after a man’s body was found in tall grass in a marsh.
A couple walking their dog found the body in the 14900 block of 82nd Avenue Northwest.
The man had no identification, but the sheriff’s office says he is a dark-skinned man in his 40s and had extreme trauma. An autopsy could be performed as early as Friday.
Investigators don’t know for sure how long the body has been there, but it could have been there a month.
Locals are shocked to see potential for big city crime in their quiet neighborhood.
“A trauma, a murder, it’s probably not a random thing,” said resident Katie Kennedy.
“It would make me think that it’s probably someone who lived around here. I doubt it would be anybody that was new to the area, but it is a good place to hide things,” said resident Adam Mort.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is checking to see if the victim matches the description of any known missing persons.
