Missing Renton man found dead in Cedar River

RENTON, Wash. – Police say the body of a man missing since Thursday night was found in the Cedar River Friday afternoon.

Gerald "Jerry" Selden, 61, left his south Renton home for a walk at about 5 p.m. and never returned Thursday.

His body was found in the Cedar River near the Logan Avenue Bridge around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The cause of death was not immediately released.

Renton police said Selden was bi-polar and suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He did not have his medication for blood pressure and anemia conditions when he disappeared.

Jerry was a Vietnam veteran that proudly served our country and was suffering from PTSD because of his military service. He is also a purple heart recipient. He leaves behind a surviving spouse and children, along with other family and friends. For those of you have chosen to use this venue to spout your political and personal views, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Commentist, you are just sick to say such a thing!!!!!! You should be ashamed for what you said, however racist are never ashamed of being racist.... carlconstantine, how wrong you are to say Mexicans don't get on welfare....This is where I leave the left, and go to the right....If people immigrate to the US they should not be allowed to get on social services other than maybe a bus ticket to the border!!!!!! No free healthcare....No food stamps....No TANF....No services at all....And as soon as a non citizen is released from prison he/she should be put on a bus to the border also, I don't care which, Canada or Mexico is as far as I want to pay for them to go.....But I guess we have no Mexicans in our prisons either!!!!!!! This does not only go for Mexicans, but any nationality....If you are not a citizen you should not be here if you can't make a living!!!!!!!!!!! That goes for people of my own race!!!!!!!!

commentist - Why do you hate Mexicans so much? Mexicans are some of the hardest working people in the entire world. They will work in the hot sun all day long in fields, construction sites, orchards, roof tops, gravel pits, garages, kitchens... You name it. They are willing to do work that most Americans will not even think of doing and for far less money. There are a great deal of filthy rich Mexicans down in Mexico and in California. Too bad that you have probably only seen poor Mexicans that are struggling to find work to feed their kids. Mexicans don't show up at welfare offices, they show up at job sites begging for a chance to work as day laborers. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.

viviano, the original story was posted before they had identified the body. At that point, they weren't releasing any information including the gender thus the speculation on who it was.

I do not see anything wrong with hoping it is not your friend or relative. The fact is they found a body someone will be gieving. We just hope it is not us. Does not mean we don't feel badly for the family it belongs to. RIP Sir.

If you are saying "I hope it isn't her" --- it is SOMEONE and there is a family that will be hurting whether it was her or not so saying "I hope it isn't her" is saying you wish it was another family's loved one and wish for another group of friends and family to grieve instead of the family / friends you "wish it were not" ......... Now we know it was the missing man and his friends and family will be grieving
