KENT, Wash. – A toddler was airlifted after falling out of a second story window in Kent.

The boy, reportedly about two years old, fell at 10:50 a.m. from home in the 11700 block of SE 268th Street. A screen could be seen partially hanging from the window after the boy fell.

Capt. Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department, says the boy fell onto a concrete driveway. He was conscious and crying when paramedics arrived. One paramedic described him in serious but stable condition.

He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A language barrier made it difficult for the family to explain what happened. 911 provided an interpreter.

Kent police are investigating.

digiwave: Sorry, I dont buy it. Does that mean I should sue my parents because I fell off the porch as a kid? I fell out of a tree once too, suing Weyerhaeuser now.. You saying all home parents should have window locks or be charged with neglect? Ridiculous!

Thank you sailorgirl. Too many dumb ppl making comments around here don't you think? And to --- jinxedagain --- if I asked then there must be a reason for it. NO NEED to be an a**hole about it!

Digiwave, you're ridiculous. Clearly one of those people who constantly judge other parents to an excessive degree. I have 3 children of my own, and while nothing like this has ever happened to mine, thank God, the first thought that went through my head was not how these parents should be charged with neglect, but rather, hoping that their child was doing alright. Thank goodness people like you don't run things when it comes to child neglect laws and enforcement. Let's leave it to the people who know how to actually and *realistically* determine the good parents who make a mistake versus the people who deserve to have their children taken away for neglect. Sheesh.

I don't get it. This is not first time, but it has been happening frequently.

Good grief. People do the best they can. If the police find facts leading them to child neglect, something will be done. But don't crucify parents based on a skeletal amount of facts news story from KING 5. We don't know what happened. I'm sure the parents are devastated and beyond remorse and regret. Lets not judge here... just send prayers/vibes/thoughts/sympathy... whatever your thing is.

Reply to stryker: I do have children who are now adults. It is no accident. You need to look at the Washington State Child Neglect laws (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=26.4... RCW 26.44.020 - (1) "Abuse or neglect" means sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or injury of a child by any person under circumstances which cause harm to the child's health, welfare, or safety, excluding conduct permitted under RCW 9A.16.100; or the negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child by a person responsible for or providing care to the child. An abused child is a child who has been subjected to child abuse or neglect as defined in this section. And also please Google "child proof window locks."

Same thing happened to me as a child - but in the '70s when trauma injury to children wasn't fully understood - I fell 30 feet, same situation. I sure hope MRIs and xrays are done - I'm still living with the results of that fall (and the failure of my parents or attending physician to properly address the severity of it). This kid is very lucky (as was I!) but he may have years of physical therapy ahead of him, particularly if there was spinal or brain trauma. And yes, even two year olds are very adept at escape, they're like little Houdinis.

what difference does it make what language they speak or where they are from? This was a tragic accident. My son opened our second story window on his own and pushed out the screen when he was 2 as well. He didn't lean out the window and fall, but came and told us the window fell out.

When I was 2-3, I was unlocking door and sneeking out to the barn and playing with the horses. And we lived next to a highway. Young kids can be a LOT smarter than you give them credit for. Really, how hard is it to open a window. Flip latch, push open. I hope the little bugger is ok.

I have my upstairs bedroom window open a bit all year long. I like to sleep in a cool/cold room. But I don't have little kids....that's the difference. Hope he is okay and the parents learn from this. And I have a big dog so nobody is going out OR in.

I'm guessing the kid may have opened the window himself. It is pretty cold out today to have the windows open in your house.

The parents should be charged with child neglect. There are NO excuses for this. I hope the boy will be OK.

A 2 yr old can figure out how to unlock a window if they've seen someone do it. Move climbable furniture away from windows. I hope for a speedy and full recovery!
