The Washington State Department of Transportation has created charts showing the busiest times to drive in Western Washington over Labor Day weekend.
The charts show projected traffic for the following routes:
- Interstate 5 between Olympia and Tacoma (Check out busiest drive times for this route)
- Interstate 5 between Bellingham to Canadian Border (Check out busiest drive times for this route)
- Interstate 90 between North Bend and Cle Elum (Check out busiest drive times for this route)
- US 2 between Stevens Pass and Leavenworth (Check out busiest drive times for this route)
The links above give a good overview of the amount of time WSDOT expects you to sit in your car while driving to your destination. If a highway is not listed for a certain day, that's a good sign. It means WSDOT does not expect significant backups for that day for that route.
WSDOT warns drivers to expect long wait times at all ferry docks and Canada border crossings, as these areas are usually more congested during holiday weekends.
When you're on the road, use the Seattle Traffic App to check your commute on your iPhone or Android. You can also visit the KING5.com traffic section from your computer or sign up for KING 5 traffic text alerts.
