Monfort's alleged 'one man war' against police
SEATTLE – Arraignment for the man charged with murdering a Seattle police officer last month has been delayed because he is still hospitalized.
Christopher Monfort is recovering after being shot during his arrest in Tukwila, Wash. on Nov. 6, seven days after he allegedly shot and killed Ofc. Timothy Brenton.
Monfort has been at Harborview Medical Center ever since. His family says he is paralyzed from the waist down.
Monfort was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday on charges of aggravated first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and arson. His attorneys reportedly told the judge he may be able to leave the hospital by next week.
The new arraignment date is tentatively set for Dec. 1.
If convicted on the aggravated murder charge, Monfort could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg has not announced a decision on whether to seek the death penalty.
Monfort is charged with the attempted murder of Ofc. Britt Sweeney, who was in the car the night Brenton was murdered, the attempted murder of a detective who he allegedly pointed a gun at the day of his arrest, and for allegedly firebombing four police vehicles at a city maintenance yard with the intent of killing police officers.
