Poll:
Do you want a nude beach in Seattle?

SEATTLE -  New Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn asked residents for their ideas about what the city needs, and apparently a lot of people have been thinking about a nude beach.

A clothing-optional beach for sunbathing and skinny dipping is in third place Thursday on the website where people can express their preferences.

First is expanding light rail and second is legalizing marijuana.

Oh yeah right....that would be your house. So stay there and let the rest of us fight to enjoy a little personal freedom. We will make sure to post signs....No clothed uptight prudes allowed!

Hey Articfireguy, let it go! This state will never separate and it shouldn't! @unhappy, then don't look! Relax people! If you haven't seen a naked body by now, then you have the issue! As for pot, try as you may, as long as it's a federal law, state and, or local municipalities will never be supercede that. You wanna get high in public, go to Canada or Amsterdam. Or, do it here and risk going to jail.

Clothing wastes energy and natural resources. Naked is "green" and natural. No foreign oil is used to produce polyester or spandex birthday suits. Anyone who supports ecologically sound living, or natural living, or reducing consumption, should favor allowing people to be naked whenever and whenever the weather is such that they are comfortable.

If people were meant to run around naked, we would have been born that way.

The beaches belong to the Public! Not to some vocal minority group that wants to ride the Train to a Beach where they can be "Stoned & Naked". But given the politics of the Westies I'm sure the State and the City Council will think these are all good ideas. In the meantime us folks over here in Eastern WA. get sent garbage from Hawaii. I would like to succeed please....

I think it's a shame we Seattleites have to travel to BC or Oregon to enjoy a day on the beach au naturel. There are plenty of discreet waterfront locations in our fair city that would be well-suited for a nude beach. Seattle is open in so many ways yet conversations about this specific public ammenity are often dismissed. I am a working professional, an avid outdoorsman, community serving and environmentally friendly person. Please help spread the word that a nude beach would serve the interests of a wide-variety of Seattleites. Thank you.

true, the point I was trying to make is, AZ isn't breaking a law, it's enforcing 1, whose to say they are right/wrong. Seattle put it's nose into their business and that seems hypocritical to me when you want to legalize pot and public nudity. I really could careless what Seattle does, have no intentions of going there now, just seems Seattle thinks its above everyone else, and I choose to take my business elsewhere.

Hey homerj -- Rather than boycott, a city that allows nudity tends to attract lots of tourists and visitors who are subject to government oppression in their home towns. A permissive government is always good for business and jobs.

What someone chooses to wear or not wear is not the government's business. The City Council should declare that they are not in the business of regulating our clothing, and prohibit their gun thugs and persecutors from harassing the people. Come on Seattle, fix the potholes, pick up the garbage, and get off the people's backs.

I'm all for the nudity in public. Love it. As for marijuana being legal. That's just what we need a bunch of stoned people running around without a clue as to what they're doing or how to do it. I can see it now. Legalize pot, obesity skyrockets, jobless rates soar, deficit increases due to no one working, and the most used word would be "huh"

as long as it doesn't cost us money, i'm for it i guess. what my neighbor does is not my concern, so long as it doesn't harm me or my other neighbors. What would be a benefit, save current police funds and increase taxable revenue would be to legalize & tax marijuana. then we'd have the money to fix some of the ugly streets & make the downtown shopping district worth something.

I hope Mayor McGinn and the city council support clothing freedom in Seattle. It is really not anyone else's business what someone wants to wear or not wear. Naked Bike Rides, nude beaches, naked walks in the park. Nobody ever turned into a pumpkin from seeing an actual human being. Cut the police budget for harassing people on the beach or in the park. Cut the Prosecutor's budget for attacking naked bike riders. Come on McGinn, fix the potholes and leave the citizens alone. Minding your own business doesn't cost taxpayers anything.

Once again the citizens of Seattle show their depth. No wonder we have fiscal issues, we're in the middle of an economic downturn and the citizens of this looney bin want a nude beach! Well, I suppose that's just their way of making room for those unfortunate few who can't afford a bathing suit.

Theres to much at risk with a nude beach- we cannot assume it is safe-or will be. Theres enough crime out there towards other humans, people should not add more bait for it-Criminal minds are what they are- Noone wants to see others hurt by some move that could obviously draw the wrong attention. Nudity is not sick or gross unless the one looking on has 'issues' that would harm another.

Here's an idea! Create a state separate from Washington and call it Seattle! They are completely out of touch with Washington State as a whole and an embarrasment to the rest of us!

Complete degenerates. All the problems we have in society, and a few perverts want a nude beach. I agree with many liberal issues, but not this one. If you want to go nude, put a good fence around your yard and sunbathe at home. the Seattle area is becoming a disgrace. Filled with perverts, drug addicts, drunks and punks.

it is very hard to believe I actually was born and raised here in the Nortwest. A place I do not recognize from my childhood some 30 years ago. I do not belong here and feel so out of place in the place I was born. It is very sad. I no longer feel connected to the place I grew up in.

As A local Seattle nudist, I enjoy going natural. I started as A river rafter. I was very disapointed to lose the beach in Bellingham. I would support & defend A local clothing optional beach close to home. Somewhere I wouldn't have to pay to enjoy my freedoms.

idnarb. could not agree more. Class has never been a word I would use to describe Northwesterners. quite the opposite. The Nortwest is continuing to gain a negative reputation across the country. It also is distancing itself even further. People all over the country think of the northwest as the least connected region to America than any other. we are way up in there in a far far galaxy to many.

unbelievable. I thought people were brain dead but this proves it. And I thought Seattleites were smarter and more educated than Oregonians. Seems Northwesterners are about the same. this part of the country is the strangest place I have ever been. And I have been to many corners of this nation. People here are very different from any others I have come across.

Our class sizes are outrageous, our economy is barley starting to recover, we have roads that desperately need attention and the top things the city needs is Pot and a nude beach. What a classy place we are.

I think having a clothing optional beach in Seattle is a good thing. The age is long past from the time that women upon seeing an unclothed person would faint dead away or have life long emotional problems. Remember the joy that was felt when skinny dipping? The feel of the wind and sun on your skin, the freedom from clothes. Almost all the states plus Europe and Canada are far ahead of us on this issue. Stats prove that there are far less problems on Clothing optional beaches than clothed beaches. And that is because the users tend to police each others behaviours. Rude, drunk and obnoxious persons are not tolerated. Law Enforcement officers are quickly contacted, and these beaches get a reputation for calling the police at the first onset of wrong doing. So the problem makers go elsewhere.

I wonder how many people excited about this nude beach have actually been to one? Well unfortunately I have.. and not by choice. While stationed at Camp Pendleton we had to occasionally pass by one in our LAV's during various beach maneuvers. If old, hairy, fat, nasty hogs is your kinda thing then have a blast.
