Wash. considers stopping some mosquito spraying

GRANDVIEW, Wash. (AP) — The state Ecology Department is considering a proposal to ban spraying for adult mosquitoes near rivers, ponds and lakes over environmental concerns.

The insecticide spraying isn't good for fish or other wetland creatures.

Spraying would still be allowed in cases where the mosquitos carry West Nile virus or other diseases, and spraying for mosquito larvae would continue as normal because it's considered less environmentally harmful.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that some residents are protesting the proposal. A public hearing at the Moses Lake Fire Department last week attracted an overflow crowd of more than 200 people.

What the State Government should be doing is educating the citizens to stop feeding the birds using birdfeeders and other methods. Let the birds work to eat their food, one food which is - Mosquito!! Train the birds to accept handouts, you'll get lazy birds who wait for and line up at the Bird Feeders. Stop feeding them and they'll revert back to their natural instinctive ways of eating bugs that bother humans.

You can only spray mosquitoes if they are carrying? Do you have to have them fill out a questionnaire first? Once again, Governess Haywire is wasting OUR money waging war on the people. And we thought it was bad when a fish was more important than people. Now even mosquitoes are more valuable than people. Something in Olympia really, really has to change.
