BOTHELL, Wash. (AP) — A Snohomish County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man during a domestic violence call early Thursday.
Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Goetz says the fatal confrontation occurred in a parking lot at a Bothell-area apartment complex where a father, his pregnant daughter and her boyfriend shared a unit. Goetz says before the deputy arrived, the boyfriend had apparently stabbed the father in the face with a screwdriver.
The spokesman said witnesses say they heard the deputy ordering the boyfriend to drop the screwdriver before the shooting. The man died at the scene; he was not immediately identified.
After the shooting, Goetz said, investigators found one screwdriver next to the boyfriend's body while a second screwdriver was found near the apartment.
The father was treated at a hospital for his injury.
Goetz says the unidentified deputy is in his 30s and has worked for the sheriff's office for two years. He was placed on administrative leave.
