REDMOND, Wash. - A new cycling program is giving kids a chance to build their confidence, explore their world and just roll around town.
The Major Taylor Cycling Club is named for America's first black cycling champion, who raced to the top of his profession in the late 1800s.
The newly formed club gets kids, especially kids of color, out of the classroom and into a sport they might have bypassed otherwise.
"I went out there and I tried it and it was cool, I liked it, it was fun," said cyclist Craig Cinderich.

"I'm really excited to be active and work out more," she said.
The program is run through the Cascade Cycling Club with equipment donated or discounted and financial support from a variety of organizations.
Normally participants ride on the street. Recently they went on the Velodrome at Marymoor Park.
Instructor Dan Harm says two wheels and a little bit of direction can open up the world.
"I could not imagine a childhood without a bike," he said. "When I was young, biking was my access to freedom."
Organizers want to expand the project and involve as many kids as they can. Visit their for more information.
