TACOMA, Wash. -  Five anti-war demonstrators accused of cutting through security fences at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Tacoma.

The men and women were charged with conspiracy, trespass, destruction of property on a naval installation and depredation of government property. They are to be arraigned Sept. 24.

U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said Friday that citizens are free to disagree with their government but they're not free to destroy property or risk others' safety.

The five indicted are 81-year-old Catholic priest Bill Bichsel of Tacoma, 83-year-old nun Anne Montgomery of New York City, 65-year-old Susan Crane of Baltimore, 60-year-old Lynne Greenwald of Bremerton and 60-year-old Stephen Kelly of Oakland, Calif.

Dang are they lucky. I served in the US Navy 1990-93. In 1991 I was part of a Security squad on an Ammunition vessel. We were loaded with ordinance both explosive and inert. If an intruder boarded the ship we had orders to Shoot to Kill. Signs were posted at the gate to tell both Naval personell and Civilian alike.

These people broke the law. I do not care what their motivation was, throw the book at them. They are lucky they were not shot. Naval Base Bangor has nukes, and how are we supposed to know these people were not after them. And maybe they were.

Sounds like they were all trying to relive the 60's. Attack of the Geritol Guerrillas! Can't blame them for opposing the war but come on people, a little common sense please.
