TENINO, Wash. - For 20 years, Karen Hull had nightmares about what happened to her 16-year-old son who disappeared in 1990.
What really happened to Walter Ackerson was worse than she ever imagined. Police told Hull her son was beaten up and thrown off a bridge in Newport, Ore.
"I can't imagine anyone doing what they did," said Hull.
Three men, who attended the same federal Job Corps facility with Ackerson in Oregon, all confessed to the crime last year. But last week, only one of the men, Troy Culver, was indicted on murder charges. In exchange for confessions from the other two men, prosecutors gave those men immunity. Hull says that makes her angry.
"Oh my God," said Hull, "They're never going to serve one day, not one."
Hull said police initially told her Ackerson likely ran away from the facility. She said she never believed them.
