SEATTLE - One man was killed and another injured in a fire that the Seattle Fire Department says was started by smoking in bed.

The Capitol Hill neighborhood fire began in a three-story older house in the 500 block of 11th Avenue E at about 2:30 a.m. The house had been converted into a triplex.

Spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen said firefighters found one man in a room. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries. He later died.

Another man, who was able to get out of the house on his own, also was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Damage is estimated at $20,000.

Idiots...there is a reason people are not identified by news sources. They respect the rights of families to be notified before the general public. We don't need knuckleheads like you to keep us "informed".

His name is Ben Hills. He worked door at The Comet Tavern. Those who knew him knew him as very polite and respectful of others. He will be missed.
