'10 for 10' project collects thousands of socks for the homeless

KING 5's Michelle Li reports.

SEATTLE - Homeless shelters seem to always have a sock shortage. They need new socks but most people who donate are giving up their used items. Not only do socks provide warmth, they also can protect feet against blisters and infections.

Dignity for Divas is hosting its first '10 for 10' drive, with the goal of raising 10,000 socks for 10 area homeless shelters in two days.

The group is even getting donations from Bombas, a sock company that donates one pair of socks for every one that is bought.

The event runs Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Monica's Village Place. You can drop off inside or at the curb. The group is collecting socks for men, women and children. Monetary donations are also accepted since Dignity for Divas can buy socks at wholesale prices.
