EVERETT, Wash. -- Everett police are investigating an automobile-pedestrian accident on State Route 526  that has left one person dead.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of SR 526 near Seaway Boulevard, near the south end of the Boeing plant.

A 56-year-old Mukilteo woman was traveling eastbound on SR526 when her vehicle struck a man walking on the roadway, according to the Everett Police Department. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear why the man was in the road at the time. Investigators are looking into the possibility the man had just been involved in a vehicle spin-out collision on the ramp from Seaway Blvd. to eastbound SR526 that left a Toyotoa Corolla in the grassy median between the roadways.

There was no early indication alcohol or drug were involved in this crash. It also appears that the car/pedestrian collision was not weather (ice) related.

The single vehicle spin-out however, may have been due to ice or slick roadways based upon the position of the car when it came to a stop. Eastbound SR526 was closed for about 2 ½ hours while police conducted their investigation. During that time traffic was diverted onto city surface streets.

KING 5's Teresa Yuan contributed to this report.

cmeverett, I work for Boeing and I missed Wed and Thurs. I was excused those two days and my options were i could take leave without pay or sick leave, or vacation if I so choose. I thought that was pretty fair on the companies part. Would have been nice to get paid without using benefits but other companies I have worked for would have done just the same. I feel sorry for the man here that was killed, I hope his family can put the pain behind them. It apears that he may have had a broken down car from the article.

Some people make the dumbest assumptions! Whatever the reason, it was an accident. I'm so sorry for the family of the person who lost his life - my prayers are with you. I am also praying for the woman who hit him. What a horrible thing to have to live with. It was a tragic accident.

as the report states: "It's unclear why the man was in the road at the time" ---it's pretty obvious, read on... He dropped his wife off at work, then took the freeway to get to the other side of the building himself. We do this every day. If the accident happened at 5AM, then obviously he was running late. Running late at Boeing is no different than throwing your reputation into the gutter. In fact, you can be fired. Weather has never been an excuse. Boeing prides itself by firing employee's through small technicalities... such as snow, ice, etc... It's pretty obvious, due to the Boeing culture, this guy decided to run across the freeway to get into work. ---in case anyone else wants to know... Boeing has not "officially" excused a single person who missed work any day last week. Such threat no doubt could, but i am not saying it is, the lead factor to this particular death.
