LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A year ago, Corporal Patrick Dobyns had a hard time walking. This week he’s building a home for low-income families in Lakewood.
“I like helping, it makes me feel better about myself,” said Dobyns.
On his way home from his deployment to Afghanistan, Dobyns suffered severe leg burns during a barbecue in Germany in 2012.
"With all the pain I have right know I forget about it and just keep doing the work," said Dobyns.
He’s recovering at the Warrior Transition Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He was among several soldiers in the program this week who are volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
For the fifth straight year, soldiers are building homes for low-income families in Lakewood.
