A U.S. Army soldier based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Western Washington was killed in Afghanistan last week.
Raul M. Guerra, 37, of Union City, New Jersey, died July 4 in the Spin Boldak area of Afghanistan.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Guerra was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.
Staff Sgt. Guerra has been in the Army since 1999.
He was currently serving his fifth deployment.
