2 JBLM Strykers killed in action in Afghanistan

1st Lt Sean R. Jacobs, 23, of Redding, Calif. (at right), and Sergeant John E. Hansen, 41, of Austin, Texas, died July 26, near Khakrez, Tsagay Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when they were attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device.

Two soldiers who served in the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, died July 26 in Afghanistan.

According to the Department of Defense, First Lieutenant Sean R. Jacobs of Redding, Calif., and Sergeant John E. Hansen of Austin, Texas, died near Khakrez in Tsagay Province ofwounds sustained when they were attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device.

For Lt. Jacobs, it was his first deployment. Sgt. Hansen had a single prior deployment, serving in Iraq from Dec. 2007 to Feb. 2009, according to Joint Base Lewis-McChord Public Affairs.
