Seattle, WA – KING 5 won 21 Northwest Regional Awards at the 48th Annual Emmy awards banquet on Saturday, June 11th. Receiving more Emmys than KOMO and KIRO combined, KING collected multiple awards for investigative journalism, news photography and local programming.
“No television station in the Northwest produces more local news and programming than KING 5”, said Pat Costello, Vice President and Station Manager for KING / KONG / NWCN. “We’re honored to receive Emmy’s across so many categories. It reflects the excellent work and the wide variety of the things we do throughout Western Washington.”
KING 5 News took home 15 Emmys including investigative and general assignment reporting, continuing coverage, health news, crime news, political special, news series, news writer, news editor, news photographer and video journalist. The “KING 5 Investigators Primetime Special” and “Mount St. Helens: 30 Years Later” won in the information special and news special categories respectively.
In local programming, KING 5’s Evening Magazine received five Emmy’s: Meeghan Black for program host, reporting, arts / entertainment and historic / cultural segments, and special event coverage for “New Years at the Needle.”
KING 5’s Home Team Harvest food drive also received an Emmy for community service.
In addition to the awards banquet, NATAS honored KING 5 news photojournalist Ken Jones with induction into the Northwest Chapter’s society of honor, the Silver Circle.
The Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) serves television professionals in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Montana.
