SEATTLE - The KING 5 Investigators have uncovered a disturbing video-tape captured on five different security cameras underneath downtown Seattle.

It shows the graphic beating of a teenage girl in Seattle's Metro bus tunnel, while uniformed security guards simply look on.

The trouble started above ground around 7 p.m. on January 28.

According to police reports, a group of teenagers approached a 15-year-old girl they knew inside Macy’s. The encounter turned antagonistic and moved on to the downtown Nordstrom. The group of 10 teenagers allegedly surrounded the girl and gave her a bad time about what she was wearing. According to police, one in the group threatened her by stating, “Bitch, I’ll kill you.”

The security camera video picks up the scene as the group of teenagers are seen heading into the Metro tunnel at the Westlake Station, apparently following the girl who had been threatened. One of the girls in the group, a 15-year-old who attends McClure Middle School in Seattle, approaches and within a few seconds, without warning, she pushes the victim off the platform and into the bus lanes.

The video shows the two girls hitting each other for a few seconds. Then, the scene gets vicious. The young attacker punches the victim in the head and face 10 times.

"It looks like a very egregious assault, which in fact it was," said Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the case along with Metro Transit Police. "The two were acquaintances, and there probably is some teenage stuff going on (before the attack) but it certainly doesn’t warrant an assault like this by any stretch of the imagination."

The video clearly shows that all of this is taking place right in front of three security guards. They are well marked with bright yellow jackets that have SECURITY written on the back. While the victim is on the ground getting punched, the guards immediately reach for their radios and call for help, but they do little else.

After the victim is punched, the attack gets worse. The suspect then kicks the girl’s face and stomps on her head six times. The guards make no attempt to get in the middle of the girls or to pull the attacker away. One guard is seen in the distance looking on. He never approaches the scene. Another guard turns his back on the assault. The third stands just inches from the girls, looking on.

And the beating isn’t over. The attacker comes back without anyone trying to restrain her and stomps on the motionless girl’s head one final time.

The attacker and her crew of 10 others - eight boys and young men, and two girls - run up the tunnel escalators.

One of them is clutching the purse he stole from the unconscious teen. Two others have stolen her cell phone and iPod.

A woman who witnessed the entire ordeal from her seat in a bus parked in the tunnel talked to KING 5.

"All of the passengers, we were all up against the side looking, like, who is going to do something? Do something, do something!" said the witness. "Why on earth are there three security guards standing there watching it? And actually allowing her to come back and kick her in the head again!"

When the beating is over, you see on the tape that not one guard bends down to see if the victim is breathing or needs help.

"Really? You've got three male security guards and there's a young girl getting kicked in the head, lying on the ground, motionless? And they couldn't do anything? Doesn't seem like security," said the witness.

The guards are not trained police officers or Metro Transit employees. They're contract workers from Olympic Security Services out of Tukwila. KING 5 attempted to reach them today but didn’t receive a return phone call.

According to their contract, the guards are to "observe and report" problems, not to get involved. Metro Transit General Manager Kevin Desmond says that policy is now out of date.

"You look at what's happening to the victim and you say something got to be changed," said Desmond. "That's just not going to be acceptable. We've had that ‘observe and report’ for years in our contract and this incident clearly shows that we need to change that."

Metro Transit has launched a review to see what powers they should give the guards. They’re working with the King County Sheriff's Office to figure out how best to change the protocols.
"You don't see that kind of thing in Seattle. But it does happen. The question is how do we respond and how do we prevent it from happening in the future?" said Urquhart.

People who’ve seen the tape say common decency, not contract language, should have prevailed in this case.

"If you're not there to help out in these circumstances, then why are you there?" said the witness.

Metro Transit Police and King Co. Sheriff’s deputies worked around the clock to track down the suspects. School yearbooks, MySpace pages and Facebook helped lead them to those involved. Four people have been arrested so far, including the female attacker. A 17-year-old male is still at large.

Police say that amazingly the victim is going to be OK.

This video is a LIE two years before this story was aired as a news, I saw this exact footage at a guard card continuing education class being conducted at CPS construction protective solutions Inc, at their now closed oceanside office. The class was conducted by members of the the DHS and King county sheriff John Urquart. The guards were told that the footage was a training video used by the new york metro and that we were to try to pick out discrepencies between three different versions of the simulated attack. We only saw two versions as the DHS member didnt seem fully aware that the footage was being used in his absence as he had an emergency root canal that morning and after arriving late did not allow the third version to be shown to the class. If you dont believe it watch the video over and over. youll see the antimated movments of the victim on the ground and the odd static distance between the knees after haven gone featl. and the attack ended.

Preventive measures lets go a head and chip up all Americans and any one coming in to the states.. A chip in the arm that will connect to a bar code with a workers card that when on duty that card when matched with the scan done to both card and right arm will place people at work in the position o f responsible to what happens while they are around and then a set up in the Police department that would light up that they are on duty will keep the Police safe and responsible as well.. I now what radio can do I am a secret Service example of some ones idea at one time but that radio don't work to well as for privacy.. this plan will.....Till Gods Country is Heaven on Earth Lets give them Hell .... something to think about!

Metro and Olympic security have such a poor unacceptible excuse last and not exempt is Seattle police / Metro dispatch and King county police. They all should be held accountable. If this is what i get to depend on for a safe enviroment for family and myself / others. Surprise !!! B.S.

I work Security, and by my animosity towards anyone badmouthing security guards in the tunnel will reveal what company I work for. Law enforcement has the slogan “To Protect and Serve” And Security’s slogan is to “Observe and Report”. Where in anything written is it required of security to protect any individual? We are to visibly deter crime not stop it, we can report what we observe and then notify the police to handle it we aren’t trained to protect people no security company in Seattle and the surrounding area is allowed to protect people. Even armed guards are only there to protect a company’s property and their assets not people. An Armed security guards weapon is issued to protect the guards self and to hopefully deter anyone thinking about doing a crime because their weapon usually is visible. I have worked in the tunnel and the conditions for these guards are terrible there are no bathrooms, breaks have to be unseen by the public, which there are no places for the guards to go

I literally became sick to my stomach when I watched this video - How can anybody in their right mind do this to someone, let alone sit back and watch? I hope this kids are found guilty, and I hope these "so-called" security officers lose their jobs. Also, for the parent of the young boy who thinks that this was ok because the victim played a part by insulting on the computer, and they dated each others boyfriends, should be charged along with her son! It is parents like you that raise their children to think this behavior is ok......This was uncalled for - No excuse is good enough for a beating like this - Can you imagine if this was your son, and your son was beat to pulp? Please stop violence like this! If citizens make a stand and intervene, instead of just stand there and watch.....maybe things like this would not happen as often! I know one thing, there is no way I could sleep at night if I was one of those security guards!!!! NEVER HIRE SECURITY GUARDS FROM THAT COMPANY AGAIN!

Grown men standing around while a teen is stomped in the head. I was so outraged when I saw this. And if she had died, would they still whine about "policy"? Common decency was no where to be found here with 3 grown men posing as security. Now every thug in the land knows they are not going to lift a finger to help anyone. Waste of money, these "guards". It would have been better for them if they had not been there at all, then a samaritan would have stepped in since everyone thought these useless security guards would surely do something. What an embarrassment to humanity to watch a girl be stomped in the head and see that NO ONE helped her.

So teens dont get in fights and bully each other. I bet they dont smoke pot either. get out from behind your desk and see you county. Teens fought in packs in the 60's and why would that change. I dont beleive this should all be focused around a securtiy guards position. I think this should be about HUMANITY! Are these REALLY people? or ANIMALS? All of them should be charged with assult and burgary. In anyother situation, everyone would get charged that was party to the crime. The so called "SECURITY" should be fired and stand in the unemployment line. AOL news reports the same incident and includes that one of the others MOTHERS said, "I'm not trying to say what anybody did was right". "BUT these two girls used to be good friends until they started dating each other's boyfriends, cheating, saying ugly things about each other on MySpace and stirring things up." EHHM...YA...SHE SURE DESERVED THAT HEY MOM? GUESS WHERE THESE KIDS ARE GETTING IT FROM? KEY WORD...BUT. ""WHAT A BUNCH OF HEATHANS HEY MA?" LOL

How is it that our tax money is paying the salary of a Sound Transit administrator who presumably arranged for a contract with Olympic security, and the thought never came up, that there might be an assault in the tunnel, and if so, if guards should simply "observe," or perhaps, for that matter, turn their backs?

And what kind of police officers defend the conduct of such guards, by saying the guards were outnumbered? 3 adult male guards were "outnumbered" by 10 teens, of whom half are girls? You don't come to the defense of a victim because you are "outnumbered" by some teenage girls? Wow. I bet these fellows would have hid Jews in WWII, too. There are lots of situations in which a person or group is doing something wrong and all it takes is a simple confrontation with some moral "authority" and moral conviction that you are in the right, and those who are doing wrong will flee or desist. In fact, the simple way to not be outnumbered, is to put yourself between the attackers and the victim, while yelling "Help!" "Help!" at the top of your lungs, and every other moral person in the tunnel should have come to your aid.

Hello People!! Guards cannot TOUCH anyone because of all the idiots out there that sue people over garbage like that! I work in retail and our security guards cannot touch anyone at all, all they can do is "observe and report" and call the police. My husband is a police officer and they even have to be extremely careful how they handle situations like this, especially since a female was involved. Its sad that our world has came to this, where criminals have more rights than the people trying to protect us!

As a former Investigative Lieutenant, Assistant Prosecutor and Deputy Attorney General in New Jersey - and as a human being - I was appalled to watch this video on local and national news. When a public entity hires a private security firm to give the public a sense of security; because, that public entity wishes to save money by not providing sworn law enforcement personnel to provide security, the public is entitled to expect that they will be safeguarded from physical harm by persons such as this. While it may be rational for an unarmed guard or one armed with non-lethal weapons to refrain from confronting an assailant armed with a handgun or a rifle, there is no rational reason for the cowardice displayed by these security guards; and, there is, certainly, no rational for three adult human beings to allow much physically smaller teenagers to repeatedly kick a young woman in the head, as they stood within arms' length from the assailants. They need real police officers!

If a bunch of seventh graders were skateboarding in that area, the security guards would have had them down on the ground with their knees in the seventh graders back. and calling for back up. But when something like this happens. They just stand and become cowers. I hope none of them have children. If they do, I hope they would not expect anyone to come to their aid, if this happened to them.

But it will be a complete tragedy if they are'nt held liable. All 3 need to be fired. And every other bystander should be ashamed for not stepping in.

To refer to the 15 year old attacker as an animal would be a grave insult to to our furry friends. How could any human so savagely mistreat another, especially when unprovoked? This girl is evil, nasty, and should be locked away or maybe put out of her misery. That the guards and bystanders did nothing to help the poor victim is a testament to how insensitive, selfish and uncaring our urban areas have become. I didn't see one "person" in this video that I would refer to as a fellow human. Very depressing indeed.

Sadly this news clip is proof of how far our humanity has been eroded. No one in the clip attempted to render aide to this girl. The excuse given 'fear of retaliation'. That's exactly why the thugs feel free to terrorize, beat down, rape, vandalize and the list goes on. Sorry folks, like it or not, as a member of the human race we ARE responsible for the safety and welfare of each other. The more people stand up the more fearful the thug becomes and his power disappears. How fearful is a lion once he's been declawed and defanged? Personally, I think the names of everyone there, witness' guards and thugs should be published to expose their shame to the community they live. Wake up people, how can any of you claim love God and then turn your back on one of his children in desperate need of your help. Shame on you all.

I would not say that GOD or religion is the answer but what happened to raising children with boundies, rules and respect? Oh wait, ,the generation raising these kids are animals too. This is not a color issue or a poverty issue it is a lack of raising well rounded children and respectful rug rats.

Certainly it is sound policy to instruct employees not to endanger themselves by trying to handle violent situations without adequate backup. That's exactly why that "policy" is in place. HOWEVER, THIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT COMMON SENSE SHOULD NOT BE EMPLOYED!! Here were 3 burly "Security" guards and a ragtag bunch of kids. A TEENAGE GIRL was the main attacker. Could the 3 have stopped the girl, or at least run the pack off? YES OF COURSE! Death or lasting brain damage could easily have resulted from all those kicks to the head. To not even show concern? To not even bend down to check on the victim? Policy or no, this is NOTHING BUT CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE. Had the girl died or suffered brain damage, THE FAULT WOULD LIE SQUARELY ON THESE THREE CRETINS WHO DID NOT OFFER THE MINIMUM AID EXPECTED OF ANY HUMAN PASSING BY. They, and their employer, should be sued.

Wow, what a false sense of security. I will not be doing it again, and if you are as outraged as I am, if you are able, stop riding too. I did notice each time I went, coming and going, they made sure that you had a paid ticket and caught a few free riders and made them get off, hummmm.

I think alot of people dont understand that those security officers could have been in a lot of trouble if they would have tried to stop the attack, Security guards are not allowed to touch/hold or apprehend you in most states and actually have less powers than a private citizen. Security is there to observe and report only that is it, anything else and they could have been fired, arrested and charged. if you want someone there that can step in and do something change the laws so (we) wont get in trouble for it. that being said personally I wish someone would have jumped in and helped her. job wise I see nothing they did wrong, morally wise yes I wish they would have helped. Security are not cops you want cops then hire cops. simple as that.

They have a mouth and more obviously most people have a cell phone. They could have called police and said aloud the police are on the way instead of just watching the child recieve potential brain damage. They, in my opinion are worth nothing.Aren't there good samaritan laws that would allow the parents to sue? It's sicking!I would risk death to save a child let alone another human being.Security means they should protect. What are they protecting? And as more girls act like boys, this country will collapse into anarchy. Get ready, it's coming. Otherwise, is it worth spending time in jail as a sex offender (I think NOT) as this country has already turned completely nuts. The sad thing is is that these people will never know how many people look down on them for their behavior.Partly because of their ignorance, but mostly because they probably can't figure out how to turn on the computer that they probably stole after mugging this poor little girl. I'm ashamed of everyone that was within ear shot of what was happening. It doesn't take any training to have compassion. Or if it does, then we deserve every atrocity that we let happen. I remember a time when I was out with friends, a group of teenage boys surrounded an elderly man and knocked his bag of groceries out of his hands and started harassing him. With barely a thought I began striding towards them, and yelled at the top of my lungs, "Leave him alone! We see what you're doing, leave him alone!!!" It didn't matter that I was the only person around actively heading towards them, what matter was that someone was calling attention to them. They scattered like the cowards they were and, while my heart was just about beating out of my chest, I helped the man pick up his groceries. You don't need to a superhero; just be a human being!!!

It has nothing to do with job responsibility. It is a matter of fear; viewing life as not being sacred and a sadistic pleasure in watching suffering. I once saw a woman being assaulted by a man with his foot on her neck smashing her face into the dirt. I ran out my back door with a broom in my hand and shook it at him screaming for him to get off her. He looked at me and got into his car driving off. I loooked up and saw a bunch of apartment monkies looking at the show through their back porch gates. We give power to these animals who choose to hurt others when there are no societal boundaries placed upon them. Are we loosing our humanity and are becoming like the animal kingdom or is it the natural carnality of man unrestrained by societal, moral or religous retraints. The gaurds have demonstrated they are no better than the assailant.

THOSE GUARDS SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!! I did security a long time ago, and my job was to PROTECT, NOT TO STAND AND WATCH! And yes, I got hurt a couple of times. What these guards did is inexcusable. Even as a civilian, I would have done something! Maybe it's because I'm ex-military. I don't know. But, I'm Pi*&ed off. I pray this never happens again.

This is what happens when out of control thugz think they can do whatever they want without consequence--they're ANIMALS! The attacker needs to be tried as and ADULT and needs to be IMPRISONED for attempted MURDER. The girl attacked needs to sue the city, county, state and security company and should get MILLION$. This is no different than the female helicopter pilot who sued the Las Vegas Hilton for 6 million dollars and won because they [the hotel and the hotel's security] failed to protect her from a gauntlet of drunken conventioneers at the Tailhook '91. Finally, the security idiots who stood there and did absolutely nothing should be charged and JAILED as well.

I was there when this was happening. Unfortunately I was behind a large crowd of onlookers and could do nothing about it to help the girl. Gosh, watching the video, I remember when it was actually happening it felt like it took so much longer... It took a few seconds for what I was witnessing to sink in, I was so shocked. It was disturbing to just watch these security guys just stand there and watch and do nothing. They seemed so calm and casual about it and it was just surreal. I remember hearing this girl screaming and crying and it was horrific, though I could hardly see her through the crowd of people. I heard her crying, but not one yell of GET OFF HER or STOP from the security guards. On the bus ride afterward I overheard many conversations about how terrified people were and everyone seemed furious that the security guards didn't intervene. I feel horrible about the whole situation and I wish I could have done something.

Why is it that this kinda stuff happens in broad daylight with dozens of witnesses and no one does or says anything? Afraid to step in, get involved? What were these security guards thinking? What were they afraid of? What about the other adults around? It's because everybody is afraid of everybody else. Afraid they might get shot, stabbed or beaten, too. Afraid of being accused of assault if they have use force to break up a fight? Self preservation kicks in and you thank God its happening to somebody else and to not you. Stay out of it and you won't get hurt. This kinda stuff happens because we let it happen. Nobody wants to be a hero anymore. The security guards should be fired and the witnesses should be ashamed of themselves.

While I don't like what happened, I do have to side with the three guards on this; they have no training to speak of beyond walking around to observe and report actions that require police intervention. They have no protective body armor or weapon, no training in restraining anyone...they are low paid observers and that is pretty much it. Even as a citizen it would be great for someone to step in...but I didn't see any other people in the tunnel make a head long dash to get involved either. If I had body armor, a P-24, a tazer and a side arm I probably would have been happy to wade into those punks and lay them all out...then of course I could get sued by them for use of force have the NAACP riding my case and a whole lot of other nonsense just for stepping in and trying prevent this girl from getting injured and her property stolen. Ideally, the punks involved will find a way to remove themselves from the gene pool in the immediate future.

True all the bystanders should have done something, but the fact is those who were in place for security did nothing. It was on Olympic Security and Seattle metro police to do something, and I believe that those bystanders (not OS or SMP) were waiting for those who were in power to do something, and not be scared cowards.

The whole bus tunnel was filled with cowards and people with no spine.....and just like all the by standers are gonna say they weren't getting paid to help, well neither were the guards...take it up with transit police, the company they work for, metro etc......maybe they didn't want to lose their life just like EVERYONE else that was in that tunnel......they get min wage to observe they did not have any weapons and I can probably guarantee that at least one of the attackers or people int he group did.....good going people....

rayzrback, I believe in spanking children, I was spanked as a child. I would consider that type of parenting socially conservative, its what society used to be and what it should be. For the sake of my position i see being conservative as being disposed to preserving existing conditions or attempting to restore traditional ones. By definition I believe in the institution of the household and the fundamental values society used uphold. I think society today is a joke and too many people feel entitled to act however they want to. I'm all for individual rights but i think this is a case where we as a society have been given to much rope and as a result we are in the process of hanging ourselves.

The rigts of parents have been stripped away while minors are protected against the very duties of a parent. Case in point, I was shopping with my son awhile back and he started to throw a temper tantrum because I told him he couldn't have an ice-cream, now normally I would have just put him back in the car and gone home, however, as I was putting him back in the car he punched me in the face. So I did what most normal parents would do, I gave him a spanking while telling him what he had done was wrong. The next thing I know, I am being attacked by conservetives for my actions, accusing me of child abuse. This is unacceptable. Parnts need their rights to punish returned to them, and soon, else the children of America are going to get worse and worse....

I so hope the girl is ok. punish the rest as adults. they need to be away for life.

I am by no means a racist but the repetitive nature and circumstances surrounding these kinds of events only lead to further profiling and intolerance. It comes down to an issue of culture and morality and unfortunately the culture with which these youth choose to associate themselves with is morally lacking. As much as they are a failure and a blemish to our society, we in turn are a failure to them. As long as we allow this kind of behavior, and the culture that drives it, to go on they will continue to think and believe they are entitled to behave this way. We as a society need to buckle down and take a strong morally conservative stand and say we aren't going to take it any more.

beetee.... Color of skin has nothing to do with it, as clearly not all of the aggressors were black. The problem has gone beyond race or creed, yet ignorant people continue to blame a singular group of people. the readers of this thread might be interested in discovering that Gangs have, over the last 10 years, become inendated with white teens, while teens of ethnic decent are becoming honor students and top-of-their-class graduates. The solution is simple, as was stated earlier, though not easily done, make the parent/s responsible for their children, punish them for the actions of their children. However, the children should be punished too. Juvy is not the answer, those kids in Juvinile detention are litterally on vacation while locked up. If these kids want to commit adult crimes, then punish them as adults. Put them in county lock-up. They will certainly think twice about committing said offences again upon thir release.

If you are a security guard, regardless of contract language, it is your moral obligation as well as your civic duty to step in and protect the innocent victim. She was attacked over clothes... really?!? Have we become such a petty race that we are now willing to let CHILDREN brutally attack each-other and rob and do nothing to prevent it? Hill top residents in Tacoma took back their neighborhoods from Gangs, ordinary citizens who had had enough, but three Guards culdn't defend a young girl in obvious fear of her life? Apalling. The guards need to go . . . they are obviously less than human beings. The bus riders on the bus and bus riders waiting for a bus should have closed in on the attack. The vast numbers of people would get a message to the suspects that they were overshadowed by four or five times their numbers. It is a sad day for Seattle when an attack like this one could happen and not one person stepped forward to help. Shame on you. Shame on Seattle. Shame on Kevin Desmond and shame on Olympic Security. If one comment is correct and Desmond has a 'special' relationship with Mr. VIncent of Olympic Security then the contract with Olympic Security needs to end and Mr. Desmond's employment needs to be terminated. Standing there and watching it all happen, they (the security) are cowards, they should be punished like other teens involved. To see her getting kicked in he face is sickening. Imagine if the victim was your daughter and think about how the parents feel. Something needs to change with this "fake" security. This is why police officers and security guards don't get treated with respect,it's cases like this. We cant seem to have and keep enough police, because the money is going elsewhere. So the city is stuck with useless security guards, whom most couldnt fight their way out of a paperbag.

No one has mentioned that in Washington State all security guards/officers are required to have preassignment training and an exam before getting licensed. Following are some of the topics: Basic Role of the Security Guard, Washington State Licensing Laws, Observation, Proper Actions, Reactions, Ethics and Diversity, Citizen Arrest; Authority to Detain, Authority to Search or Seize Private Property, Use of Force and so on…the full list can be found in WAC 308-18-30. Basically, the Use of Force is allowed as long as it is reasonable and necessary to protect another person and/or yourself. The Olympic Security Officers should be fired for two reasons: 1) The officers had the authority to act by Washington State law and the training they should have received. 2) They should have at least acted out compassion for the victim. If not fired, two of them should be reprimanded, suspended and required to go through all training again. The third should be fired for walking away.

The duty was nowhere to be seen and a group of girls was tormenting a boy, slapping his face and pushing him against a pole. Everyone in this instance was caucsian, BTW. And about 8 years old. I am not much biggger than a 5th grader but sometimes all it takes is someone yelling KNOCK IT OFF. If someone had intervened perhaps the security guards would have felt foolish as HUMAN BEINGS just standing there not helping. I don't care what their contract says, but of course we have seen bank tellers fired for thwarting robbers so perhaps they feared reprisals if they were to break policy. But observe and report? So security guard Joe does get involved, probably gets some punches thrown on him (meanwhile the bus full of commuters continues to stand by). The next day security guard Joe is called into corporate and no longer has a job. Right or wrong, we excpect good men and women to get paid minimum wage and put their lives on the line without the tools (pepper, cuffs, firearms) to protect themselves. Nobody wins. Stepping in would have been the noble and right thing to do but the contract security companies will NEVER accept the liability that goes along with that. So the 8 hours of "Observe and report" training continues.

This is a srewed up place! This young girl obviously knew she was in trouble and tried to seek protection from these worthless "security guards". You can tell from her body language that she needed protection. I would guess she even asked for help before the morons let that pack of animals attack her. It's actually counter productive to have that kind-of security crew in that environment as they provide a false sense of security that doesn't exist. The girl would have been better off to do something else to possibly avoid being attacked (run, find someone else to ask for help, pull a fire alarm... anything!) These animals knew that the "security" crew would not react. If the value of having these security people in the tunnel is that their presence will discourage crime, that's obviously not working. You need security people, with guns and authority to act in places like this. It's too bad that young girl didn't have the means to protect herself. My 15 year old does!

Intervene and guess what happens: 1) You lose your job for violating express company policy. 2) The police arrest you for battery on minors. 3) The media report that a "vigilante, untrained PRIVATE security guard" has assaulted misguided youths. 4) You end up injured at best and dead at worst.

Gawd, human decency seems to be missing in those security guards. Although caution needs to be observed with a group of 10 hostile teens (people in the past have been severely hurt trying to help when the mob turned on them) they could have at least looked at her to see her condition and secured the scene from the attackers return. This is sick and chilling, and makes me wonder how they can live with themselves? The victim could easily have died or been disfigured, maimed. I'd be firing someone.........and hiring more socially responsible guards.

Shame on the security guards but what about all the other people that stood by and witnessed the attack. There were plenty of other people that could of done something as well. We should all look out and protect members of our community. Unfortunately one day that could be any one of us being beaten. I hope and pray that the next time something like this happens people will step in to help.

OK, 10 of them, three of you. What are they armed with, or potentially armed with? What training do you have? What are your resources other than a radio? What instructions have you been given? Have you been told you would be fired if you actually got into physical contact with someone? How close are the police? Before condemning the security guards, think about those things? Should they have helped? Yes. Were they covered under their terms of employment to help? Probably not. Did they have the training and resources to help? Once again, probably not. These are employees with minimal (if any) training to be peace officers, or any first aid skills. Hopefully, those things will change, but is that type of job a "minimum wage" job? No, and the qualifications would be different. Too many overlook the obvious. At least some of the gang is known by the victim. What's been done about those people? They'll get, what, a month at juvy hall detention? Then back on the streets

It's culturally insensitive to suggest roving gangs of violent black youth are a problem. Blacks don't commit crimes.

What about your moral obligation to another human being? Good Lord why didn't someone from the bus help her either? As usual, society doesn't want to get involved because they might get hurt. I don't care if the security job says to report and not do anything. How can those men sleep at night? What if that was their Daughter, Sister, Friend? Would they be outraged by some guy just standing there, and then to top it off, not even check on her to see if she is even breathing! Just unbelievable!

It appears their jobs are more important than the girl's life. If they don't change things, gangs will take over and the tunnels will have to be closed.

Out of human decency why did they not intervene? Who cares the so called employer thinks, they have a hand in this crime. And for King County Sheriff's Office to say this is not like Seattle, no what about the robberies, assaults, shootings, stabbings that occur on a regular basis, but oh no not things like this happen in Seattle, Get Real. The Security Officers, all of them should be at least charged for not calling for assistance and morally I hope it haunts them and someday the favor can be returned in kind. What would they be saying if they were watching this and it was their child being beat, then they would be screaming bloody murder.

Wow, talk about three of the most worthless individuals to STILL be employed in this economy. Please, with 10 % of the current population looking for work, these idiots are the best they could find? I sure hope they don't try to make it illegal to carry a concealed permitted weapon down in the tunnel. I'm glad the girl will be ok. I hope the taxpayers are not sued for this. But I wouldn't mind seeing Olympic Security Services lose their collective butts for this one.

Sounds like some firing is in order, what do they think there were to secure? Gang mentality... I hope the girl recovers and that attackers are prosecuted as adults, they certainly are of an age that they are accountable and this is not child's play.

Why don't we prosecute the parents, or parent as the case most likely, of the attacker. Maybe we should out law groups of african american teenagers of three or more unless on a sports team.

If one of those UNARMED security guards stepped in they most likely would have been shot by one of the others in the group. I am sure black leaders will announce why this was someone elses fault and that the group was really a youth group from a church.

to read that these incompetant security chickens did nothing is appalling! they did not even check to see if this girl was ok? who is paying these guys to do nothing? I remember another instance that a security guy just observed and report a mugging of a bystander in tacoma, only after I yelled at him to do something did he use his phone to call police. I also yelled that if he did not do something I would! me a 5'4 female ran down the street fearless and ready to save the day. and I was not on anyone's payroll. at least I had a heart . I wont sit back and watch something happen. how could they have been so heartless?

The guards were doing exactly what they were supposed to do as per their job description and Metro policy. This sort of behaviour (crime) goes on every day on Metro buses and property. The perpetrators always look, generally, just like these people.

It's very sad this video only showing one angle of the action can make people like ya'll so quick-to-judge. What if the security guards get hurt because they turn on him? How much are they paid? Is it enough to to risk their lives in breaking up a fight? Is it even protocol to break up fights? We have to ask more questions. After the killings of the policemen last year, I definitely think law enforcement should lay off these kids and just let them kill eachother.

All ( 3) Security Should be Fired for their Actions & "Poor" Conduct.. Its Disgrace and very pitiful excuse for their Cowardice and they should be clearly ashamed of themselves for allowing such behavior. Those Guards should "Step In" between and separated them and quickly escorted the Victim out of the Area. If I was there it would have "Never" happen. Security Guards like them, should "Not" working in the Security Field. I worked Unarmed & Armed Security for 29 Years and never seen such type of behavior, that I viewed on that Video. Security Companies need to properly train their Guards and provide them with the necessary tools, to get the Job, effectively done. Start issuing "Tazers, Batons & Large Cans of Pepper Spray. They should Have Armed Security Guards, working with at Least ( 2 ) Police Officers, in such a Large Complex. Common Sense Folks....

Furthermore The "Victim" should file charges against the person that attacked her, and above all "Sue" City & Bus Authority, for "Failing" to provide better protection for "All" concerned. The City should Now have Police Officer(s) assigned to large Crowded Area's. Properly Train New Security Guards and issue them "Tasers, Batons, & Pepper Spray. I personally would like to see them "Armed" too. Our Society today is becoming More Violent and these thugs are using Weapons.

Here we go again. Blame the company, security guards, bla bla bla. Desmonds needs to take responsibility for this. He's known for years that all those rent a cops do is sit around taking naps, but he expects them to secure a billion dollar tunnel while getting paid 10 bucks an hour. You pay cops to patrol the buses but you leave your tunnel's security to a bunch of under paid, under trained old man? Get real.

We need to put this trash on notice that running the streets like dogs will get you gunned down like dogs... I hope to read soon that all of these punks are either gunned down or OD on crack sooner rather than later... We don't need them in our city or society...

Okay, if this wasn't part of the guard's "job description", then any MAN would be taking off his uniform and declaring himself "off-duty" and then stepping up to help this girl. I'm trying to imagine my husband, a firefighter, standing there and watching this all unfold. Never. He'd be coming to her defense in a heartbeat.

WOW! even if it was NOT my job, it would just be natural instinct to yell STOP, and to check if she was breathing as i call for backup. If i got in trouble for seeing if a young girl is OK, then that would truly be ridiculous. Kids are gonna be kids, especially if they know the security isn't gonna do Sh** about it! Hopefully the "beef" stops, and no other dumb kids try to get away with it as well...

(Bus tunnel incident) I don't see why all the concern. If we all think back to the Seattle Mardi Gras, February of 2001, the Seatle P.D. did the same thing (watched) , while an innocent youth was killed by gang thugs and we all watched it at home on T.V. . So why is this incident any different????

This is very unfortunate that paid security guards failed to intervien. Something has got to change!! Just changing the security service wouldn't be enought for me, but a good start. Policy change is needed that will protect our citizens. The security guards failed to understand it was not only thier job but duty they have choosen to provide. If a human service is hired to provide security they should provide it. Or, we should install cameras & security alarm/phone service ect. The guards did not even agresively offer to mediate the problems while others called Seattle Police. Someone needs to be FIRED. Guards and bosses!! The manager of the security outfitt, hired to help with security in the tunnel, gave a very good pitch. They didn't have policy to offer protection!! What a great salesmen.... So, we've been paying people to mingle in the tunnel!! What part of SECURITY are they failing to understand??? This life it not a dress rehersal, it's the real thing and it's fragile!
