OLYMPIA, Wash. - Today the state announced that a ferry employee who was the subject of a KING 5 investigation is now off the job.
Last month KING-TV uncovered ferry maintenance employee Jack Nannery had a 22-year history of work-related problems including cheating on timesheets yet he was still working for the state. Most recently they found payroll records showing he had called in sick - paid sick time - on days he was healthy enough to work as a volunteer assistant coach for the Kingston High School Buccaneers.
As a result of the story, state managers launched their own investigation. They found Nannery called in sick on four days that he also coached baseball after work hours.
Based on what the ferry director called a "pattern of unethical behavior," Nannery was on his way out.
Instead of termination, he volunteered to retire.
