Part of the iconic boardwalk along Seaside Heights in New Jersey was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy Monday.
New Jersey's Star-Ledger estimates about 50 feet of the Funtown Pier collapsed in the storm, splintering in the wind and scattering debris all over the beach.
The pier houses tourist shops and amusement park rides, some of which were also damaged by Sandy.
Pictures taken by NBC New York's Brian Thompson shows part of a large roller coaster collapsed into the storm surge, and a ferris wheel surrounded by seawater.
