CLE ELUM, Wash. – Kittitas County detectives are investigating a woman's remains found buried at Suncadia Resort near Cle Elum. "The remains were found in a shallow grave, about 18 to 24 inches deep," said Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers.
The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says a construction crew working on a new golf course at the resort unearthed what appeared to be the remains of an adult woman Monday morning.
"One of the backhoe operators doing some work on one of the water systems noticed some clothing when she took a scoop of dirt out," said Undersheriff Myers.
Investigators say there are no obvious signs of how the person died.
Forensic investigators along with anthropologists from Central Washington University are now carefully removing the remains, trying to piece together what happened.
"Some of our investigators are working with our county records and neighboring counties to find cases that are potentially involved. That's going to be a long, slow process," said Myers.
Investigators say it will take days before they finish up their work at the crime scene. They'll also be looking for more evidence and trying to determine whether they should start looking for more bodies.
Suncadia is a sprawling 6,400-acre property filled with golf courses, spas and more than 400 homes.
