SEATTLE – KING Television and KING 5 News  today announced that popular consumer advocate Jesse Jones is taking a leave of absence.

Over the past few years, Jesse has been quietly waging a successful fight against kidney cancer. He is among 200,000 survivors of the disease in the country.

During a recent checkup, Jesse’s doctors found a common occurrence with his type of cancer; it had moved to his lungs. The doctors caught it in a very early stage.

Jesse has already had two tumors successfully removed and will now begin immunotherapy. His doctors say because he is young and in good health, they are optimistic the treatments will destroy the last bit of cancer.

Jesse looks forward to returning to KING 5 News in February. Until then, Jesse and his family are hoping to move forward with his recovery with as much privacy as possible.

Well-wishers can leave a message for Jesse in the comments section below.

Wow, I have heard in the past how much Jessie has done for others and was talking to a good friend about her circumstances and asked her if she had contacted Jessie. Her reply was “no and I can not remember his last name”. I told her neither could I. I told her I would look into it for her. Then I found that Jessie has been battling Kidney Cancer. My heart sunk to my feet, as will hers when she finds this out. I have nothing but “wellness” thoughts for you Jessie and your family. Hope this finds you well and happy. Our hearts go out to your family. Kathleen and Mickey,

Go Jesse! Just to pass along a tip that may help you. It has been shown in several studies that turmeric has cancer-fighting properties. Many people have found that taking some turmeric every day helps shrink tumors and decreases the chances of the cancer spreading. You can get empty veggie caps to fill your own capsules. A little black pepper mixed into the turmeric powder apparently helps with the effectiveness. It won't harm you, and may help prevent a recurrence. Come back strong, Jesse!

Hello Jesse, I am so sorry to hear about your battle with cancer. I know that it is difficult, but you will over come this. Just to give you a little bit of an uplifting story. I have an old friend of mine who I use to work with. She ended up quitting because her husband, did not like her away from home so often. She quit, and ended up being diagnosed with Non-hodgkins lymphoma. which, I think she told me has only a 17% survival rate. she went through years of chemo, drinking it, being injected, you name it. Had permanent tatoos where the lasers entered her body. But, she had faith and hung in there. And went into remission. Thank God. But, she was told she would never be able to have children because of all the chemo. She was broken hearted. Not only had her marriage come to an end. Now she couldnt have children. I lost touch for awhile, then ran into her a few years back. She was at the gas station, with her beautiful daughter! Have faith Jesse. you are in my prayers. Dj

Jesse, I didnt know you had taken a leave of absence. My mom had kidney cancer and reading this really hit home with me. You came out to my house before and I did a interview with you about my deceased dad's cell phone bill. I feel like I kind of choked when the camera came on but still am proud that I had a chance to work with you. You are such a genuine person. I hope the best for you treatments and wish you well with dealing with this recovery. You are the best! Enjoyed watching you get shaved tonight on the news. I was wondering about your new grey high lights in your go-T. You look good both ways. I had to send you a positive comment since you said you have been getting negatives about your go T. Keep up the good work you do for making things right in this world. Kelley Cavar

Our prayers are with you Jesse. A friend of mine was diagnosed with Leukemia a year ago and was told he only had a month or two left. His wife read and did everything she could to help fight his cancer. She bought a water ionizer which changes water into akaline water and changes the PH in your system. Cancer is attracted to acidic cells and because of the foods we eat most of us have an inbalance PH. The water is full of antibodies which helps detox your body. She also change his diet to more akaline foods and vegetables. My friend just passed away after living 18 months and was feeling pretty good. Since my friend started to drink the water our other friends started buying and drinking the water with results of losing weight, aches and pains gone, diabetes under control. Check out Life Ionizers.

you may already be doing this, but no pop or other acidic beverages (cancer loves acid) drink alkaline water, lots of it, eat a more primitive alkaline diet. JUICE! Many who seriously hydrate with the proper water (tap and bottled are acidic and oxidizing and we can prove it) overcome this monster by not giving it what it needs. Essentia is one of the better bottled waters, made in Bothell, but nothing can replace fresh out of an ionizer as is used all over the world where they don't have the cancer and health probs we do here. We do water clinics to educate people about water...because most think water is water and that is not so. You may find Dr Lorraine Day's DVD of interest...she is a doctor who cured her cancer. We need you well and out there kicking you know what! Need help? I'm there.

Dude! You always look so healthy and energetic and upbeat that I'm taken aback by this news. I'm also reminded, again, to appreciate people as much as possible. It's so nice to have you and what you do as a part of the world, I love how you get justice for the little guy. It's like the movies where someone has a superpower that allows them to make the bullies submit, to make the creeps cower, to make the jerks shut up! Also, you seem like a really nice man, a disappearing breed. When you come back in February you will have a pile of work to catch up on, with all the creeps, bullies and jerks thinking they have a little breathing room. I look forward to watching you clean house. Hugs and prayers to you for a successful fight of your own. Peace. Barbara

Jesse, Sorry to hear of your ailment ...Just seen you were back on the news Question I dont know if this is the place to ask it. Because of the great amount of deficet in the bugeting ...Since you and I have to pay for our own cars and gas to get to and from work ...Shouldnt the Sheriffs ,State Police and others park their vehicles at a common area where they can be used for another shift. When I was younger my friends father worked at the county garage the cars were there for maint..but were used for at least two if not more shifts unless maint was needed.... today we have unmarked cars which I belive should be done away with unless they are Detective s. A black and white as they are called control better response to the public ,because of presence...and how much cost is it to maintaine these extra vehicle with cost and officers taking them some . I bet the budget could save millions with some sencible thought in these areas... Any way thanks for your time . Thanks Mont

Jesse, Moved to Seattle in 2007 from Hawaii. Started watching King 5 because Lori Matsukawa is from Hawaii and I liked your sign off line. "Jesse Jones King 5 news!!" Lost my best friend' s wife in 2009 to pancreatic cancer. As I introduced them in 1964 they are very special to me. I know what your loved ones are going through and I for wish them strength and hope. We love watching your segments and your help to so many people is inspiring. In Hawaii we call it kokua or help and it is a huge part of who we are and what we do as Hawaiian born people. Onipaa means to be steadfast. Believe! What goes around really does come around and you have spread Aloha through your reports and it will come back to you. Don't give up and fight the good fight. You will win and we are all pulling for you. The good news is if your hair falls out no one will ever know! Aloha, Paul Inoue and Danette Emoto your fans from Hawaii

From the moment I heard your signature sign-off "Jesse Jones, King 5 News" I knew you were special. Even if I didn't care about the story you were reporting I listened just to hear your delivery and your sign-off! Be well soon.

Kidney Cancer is sneaky. It can come back years later in other body parts so can never be completely ignored. That said, we have a woman in Bremerton who is an almost 20 year survivor of Stage 4 thanks to the same Immunotherapy you are undergoing. You are welcome to join in with our Kidney Cancer support group at your convenience. Next meeting is being set up for January 29 and will be on the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance calendar. Best wishes for your battle.

Jesse- Please help spread the awareness of kidney cancer! My husband was diagnosed in Aug of this year. You hear so much about so many cancers but never kidney cancer. By the time he was diagnosed, he was stage IV. He had symptoms for 2 years and no doctor put 1 and 1 together to even test for it. As tough as this is, it could be a huge benefit to all of those who will be diagnosed in the future by helping to create knowlege and an awareness that may result in an earlier diagnosis.

When someone is as well known as yourself, shares this awful condition with the public, we all benefit. Thank you for that. You must be the most imitated newscaster in Seattle's history! My family and friends adore you, and we wish you the speediest recovery and freedom from cancer. Jesse, you are in our prayers. Lorie

Jesse - I had no idea you were battling cancer too. I'm so grateful for your help when I was trying to get my money back from a company selling religious statues. I was terrified of being on TV, but you put me at ease and were so kind to me. You're going to be missed over these next two months! I hope you'll sing us a round of "Hot Stuff" when you feel well enough again. I'm sure I'm not alone here! I remember sitting there just talking to you, and I made an off-hand remark about how interesting your job must be. Your face lit up when you said, "I LOVE my job! I get to help people." Well, we all greatly appreciate it. You've got the love and support of the whole region behind you, Jesse. Stay strong!

My husband and I greatly appreciate and enjoy your Get Jesse segment. Even though you come off as a gentle giant, you absolutely get the job done. Well, we're looking forward to Getting Jesse back so that the scoundrels out there can be held to task. Most important, however, is that you take care of yourself and don't rush your recovery. Along the way, I want to encourage you to celebrate every victory in your healing, no matter how small. I find that if I celebrate every little victory - rather than waiting for the monumental ones - I have more celebrating to do in the process. With many blessings being sent your way - we wish you well.

Mr. Jones, Your actions have helped many in situations where they often did have someone to turn to, they turned to you. I thought there must be some way that the public can assist you, as you helped so many. Prayers are way to start, and they are always a good thing, but I feel that we might be able to do something more. As the story mentioned, you found this out in an annual checkup, maybe intended or not, you have given us more help, maybe its a reminder for all of us, both men and women get those annual checkups. I sure hope you get better, I will add you to the people I pray for. Jean Emerson can have yo as a guest on her medical news and updates program! Hint Hint to KING 5 for a production idea !

Mr. Jones, Stay strong... Cancer can be beat. My own 28 year old son can attest to it. He has beaten testicular cancer. Best of luck.
