PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. - A Pierce County business owner said he has a product that could be more effective in cleaning up the oil in the Gulf of Mexico.
"It's better than guys with kitty litter scoops picking up pieces of tarballs," said Herb Pearse, owner of Eco-Tec, Incorporated. Eco-tec makes pads that soak up oil spills.
Pearse said the company's latest product, called "SOS-28," could be rolled out on the beaches of the Gulf to clean up the oil.
BP has received more than 40,000 suggestions on how to clean up the oil from businesses, entrepreneurs and the general public.
The State of Washington is offering its equipment and advice.
The Department of Ecology has allowed thousands of feet of booms, usually stored in Washington's waterways, to be sent to help with the cleanup in the Gulf.
Ecology scientists have offered expertise to Gulf cleanup crews, when they've asked, said a spokesperson.
No Washington state workers have been sent south, but the Ecology spokesperson said the state would provide assistance, if needed.
