A Western Washington ski area has cracked an exclusive club.
The Ski Area Citizens' Coalition recently published their annual Ski Area Environmental Report Card for the 2011-2012 season.
Stevens Pass has been named one of the nation's top ten friendliest ski areas, with a of 81.7 percent grade on a scale created by the coalition. Top resort was Squaw Valley at 92.1 percent. The lowest ranked was the Montana Snowbowl at 47.4 percent.
Grading includes habitat and watershed protection, how global warming gets addressed, and the resort's overall environmental practices and policies.
The coalition ranked Mount Bachelor at 75, Mount Hood Meadows at 71.5, Timberline Lodge and Skibowl at 70.4 and Mount Ashland at 63.2 percent.
