An incorrect sewer line has allowed raw sewage to seep into Seattle's Bitter Lake for an unknown amount of time, but perhaps for as long as eight years, a city official confirmed.
Warning signs were posted around the small North Seattle lake Tuesday. It is not known how much sewage may have leaked into the lake.
Seattle Public Utilities said an illegal cross connection is to blame.
An owner of a building near the intersection of North 145th Street and Greenwood Avenue North will be cited for the mishap.
City crews are cleaning up the mess.
