Summer is the season of fresh vegetables and fruit, and for many in the Pacific Northwest it means harvesting from their own backyard. Many veteran gardeners already have a plentiful bounty ready to be eaten, but if the warming temperatures are just starting to make you think about planting, there is still time.
Falaah Jones of Seattle Tilth says that harvesting continually throughout the summer is key to making sure your produce stays fresh, and deep watering is key.
Container gardening is hot right now with so many people living in apartments, condos and homes without space in the backyard. Jones says that anything can grow in a container.
Seattle Tilth is offering free container gardening classes all summer long at various Seattle parks. For more information on those or on summer kids programs, visit Seattle Tilth's website.
