SEATTLE -- The group Environment Washington released a report Thursday which claims polluters dumped 2,714,912 pounds of toxic chemicals into Washington water ways in 2012.
The report, titled “Wasting Our Waterways,” is based on data from the national Toxics Release Inventory (TRI).
It lists timber products companies in Bellingham and Cosmopolis as Washington state’s worst toxic dischargers.
A local spokeswoman, Anusha Narayana, said Washington ranks 24th on the list of states discharging the most industrial toxins into water bodies.
The group said the releases are threats to human and environmental health and are among some of the worst in the country.
